He is a complimentary piece. If 2nd or 3rd best option on a really good squad is complimentary. He is not THE guy. That isn’t an insult. That is what he has always been and fills the role very nicely.
If complimentary piece is scoring 15-16 ppg and doing all the little things then I'll take 2-3 of those. We don't need an All American to be really good. Didn't have one in 2023.

Call whatever you want, I rate him "essential" piece, and he is the cog that make Hurley's offense system tick, hum, and chug.
It's no coincidence that our offense soars to the sky since he came to Storrs as fresh man starter.

For real. No Karaban next year will be the end of an era from my perspective as a fan. That’s why I really want Stew and Ross (and Ball, if applicable: i.e., if he doesn’t like his 2026 draft projections) to both hit a stride this year so they’re on track to be big time leaders next year. It seems like Hurley’s struck the perfect balance between continuity and new additions to rosters between seasons. The value of that core continuity can’t be underestimated, in my opinion.

got some love from CBS, including for his defense. Ross and Stewart should watch AK tape on how to defend drives, especially against smaller players. AK is always in great position and avoids the armbars and handchecks that plague Ross/Stewart, also does a good job of positioning himself for blocks when the player goes up for a shot.

Alex Karaban's

Silas Demary Jr.'s excellent showing and AJ Dybantsa's enormous second half in his Boston homecoming were the two main storylines after No. 3 UConn outlasted No. 7 BYU 86-84.

In typical Alex Karaban fashion, it overshadowed maybe the best game of Karaban's career. The UConn senior delivered 21 points on just 11 shots. He drained all four of his 3-pointers and didn't turn it over once in 39 minutes. He finished with a sparkling 181 offensive rating, the fourth-highest single-game performance of his 115-game career in Storrs. Oh, and he was excellent defensively. Covering up gaps. Getting his hands in the passing lines. Contesting everything. UConn asked Karaban to switch onto both Dybantsa and jitterbug point guard Rob Wright, and he was up to the challenge almost every time. BYU shot just 3-for-12 from the field when Karaban was the closest defender.

Karaban's decision to return to this roster has helped him return to a role that suits him almost flawlessly. Karaban isn't ever going to be the fulcrum of an offense, and that's OK. But a point guard like Demary, shooters like Solo Ball (and eventually Braylon Mullins) and a big man like Tarris Reed help Karaban drift into the shadows. That's where he's just utterly lethal.

It's a big reason why these Huskies look every bit the part of a national championship frontrunner.

Yep.

He's a complementary piece only in comparison to pure scorers like AJD.
I dont love that narrative.
He is the unquestioned leader of this team and the face of the program. He's our most versatile defender and he knows the system better than anyone. He is a clutch shooter and NBA ready tmrw.
Complimentary piece is like calling John Bonham an aux percussionist.

Complimentary piece? Take his stats and leadership out of our production. Where are we now, and where have we been the past few years? Comments like that (hilariously stated as a near fact) make the Boneyard sound like the Bonehead.

First: The word is COMPLEMENTARY
Second: Have you seen him play defense recently? He keeps his man in front of him, doesn't get into foul trouble and he's a shot blocker!!
Third: Have you seen his drives to the Hoop? Last year they seemed forced, this year they flow smoothly from the system.
Fourth: Outside shot looks like 2023 and 24 all over again
Fifth: He is a true leader who oozes calm cool and collected.

He is not COMPLEMENTARY. He is an essential piece of the puzzle. He is a STAR.

He is a leader for sure.. trust me I’m a Nova guy and would love to have him. We have a million new dudes. He is a glue guy w very nice shooting skills. Who wouldn’t want That?
But, yeah, complementary …..and why does that insult some of you
Yeah..I watched the second half …he took 5 shots in the whole game, got 3 rebounds and an assist . Set a nice screen w 10 seconds left…was not a factor in any way for the closing minutes.
