Another SEC team with a big trio of scorers leading the way, in Walker, Lewis, and Copeland. South Carolina won the first game played this season in Tuscaloosa 77-60, and Lewis was the big scorer with 28 pts and Walker added 16 pts and 8 boards, but they were the only players to score in dbl digits.

Boston had a poor offensive game with only 5 pts, but had 10 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals. Henderson led the Gamecocks with 20 pts, Cooke scored 18 pts, and Saxton added 15 pts.

Alabama has been the #2 team in the SEC right behind Arkansas in volume shooting and making of 3-pt FGs, but they shot 4-16 from behind the arc in the 1st game against the Gamecocks, who have the 12th-ranked 3pt FG % defense in the nation. Will be interesting to see which team wins that battle again later today....

Alabama hanging in there...26-21 game, end of 1Q

Destanni Henderson with 8 pts, 4 rebs, 4 ast, 1 stl in Q1.

Fast paced game. Alabama playing aggressive and physical. Lot of guard play offensive and defense.

Alabama is a sneaky team. They can be very good when they are playing well.

I think I’ve seen Alabama miss maybe three times so far? Sheesh. It feels like they haven’t missed at all.

41-40 Bama at half. Wild game with fast pace. Shooting for both teams cooled of in 2d quarter.

It felt like they couldn't miss a 3 when we played them last year and this year.

Alabama has the guard play to honestly play with most teams if they are clicking. Their post play is where I think they get exploited a bit. Holding their own so far though.

I don’t even think SC is playing bad on defense. Alabama is just executing extremely well on offense. They look like an upperclassmen led team. I think they’re going to do very well in the NCAA tournament.

87-63 Cocks. Nice to see the bench empty in conference games!

menial Russel looked good n mop up

I love seeing teams run out of steam against SC. Especially when they come out hot like Alabama did.

Eniya Russell looked good n mop up
She's shown me more than enough she is a true PG. Plays heady with very good handles. I believe Dawn can trust her to play more there.

Alabama limited to 22 pts in the 2nd half.

Boston with another 2-10 shooting game against Alabama. They clearly have some sort of defensive scheme against her that works.

Unfortunately, great players find other ways to do work. 13 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 6 assists (just 2 turnovers).

Littleton with 8 pts, 3 rebs, 2 ast in 23 minutes. Nice seeing her get extended PT.

A collapsing matchup zone. Their entire scheme is focused on stopping her.

Zia Cooke was so wide open today it wasn’t even funny. She burned them for 21 points.

The Gamecocks as a team shot 19-20 (95%) from the free throw line. They have really improved in that area, where they hadn't been strong AT ALL as a team for much of this season. Their recent games:

Alabama: 19-20 (95%)
Miss St: 19-22 (86%)
LSU: 13-25 (52%)
Georgia: 16-24 (67%)
Arkansas: 16-22 (73%)

OK, the LSU game wasn't that great, but overall for the last 5 games the team has shot 83-113 (73%) which is about 10% better than their season average thus far. Hopefully that continues to improve through the rest of the season....

Yep that was the story of the first game as well - Henderson scored 20 pts and Cooke scored 18. Alabama put the onus on the Gamecock guards to provide the offense. They did for both games, and Boston set her career high for assists today.......

Mind you, Zia Cooke basically only played 1 half. She sat for most of the first half after two fouls early in the first quarter.
