Several years ago, a kid in Philadelphia took a note to school to excuse his absence the previous day -- attributed to "an appointment with the doctor." In reality, he had a ticket to watch the Sixers vs. the Celtics. Julius Erving was in residence.

One of my parishioners was reunited with his college room mate this week when he attended the Indiana Pacers game in Philly. He and Frank Vogel were room mates at Juniata College before Vogel transferred to Kentucky.

The link is to Carl's article from the Wednesday JI. It's pretty easy to guess which 2 kids skipped school to watch the first round of the men's NCAA tourney.
I remember skipping school to go home to watch the IL High School tournament when I was like in Jr Hi. When I got older and was driving, my brothers and I would skip and drive down to Champaign, scalp some tickets and watch the tourney. :) Oh to be young again.

I pretended to be sick so I could stay home and watch my house get torn down when I was 8. Long story made short - our house was built on unstable ground, was condemned and torn down. Lot remains empty to this day. Was a very traumatic event, but apparently it was national news as my grandparents saw me on the NBC Nightly News.

Google maps 25745 Abdale Street, Santa Clarita, CA for where our house used to sit. Our house was one of 4 torn down on that street, and two on the street above.
