What a great opportunity for the 4 of them. And then consider all 4 of them will be playing on the same college team this year. Wow. Gonna be a great season.:D

The one thing to be gained from this trip for the UConn-4 to Las Vegas for a try out is : Experience..... Experience that is going to be invaluable to them for the upcoming season. The competition for the 12 spots on the Olympic team is going to be fierce.

We are talking fierce competition among WNBA Pros for every spot. Not much of a chance for a college player in reality. Maybe they keep 1 or 2 college players. Maybe. But this is going to be a team made up of 10-12 professionals. No knock on the college kids asked to try out , but experienced USA Pros against the Worlds Best is what is going to be required in 2016. The last Olympics proved that.

Depends, maybe USA is looking to the future also. Down the road I would expect they don't want to start over with a completely inexperienced team after the 2016 Olympics. A pattern evolves with USA bringing in players for these different events in preparation.

The most important thing they will receive in participation is the recalibration of their expectations of how high they are challenged to elevate their game. This will be rewarded every time they step on the court and commit to push themselves further than they ever thought possible for anyone.

This convocation is not called to choose the National team -- only the pool from which that team will be selected for the various games. There's no requirement to send the same team to the Olympics as goes to the Worlds or any of the other events the pool players will contest.

I think they'll keep one or two collegians in the pool.

The link is to Carl's blog....has some quotes from a couple of the current Huskies heading for Las Vegas. World Championships are next summer [or September?]....wonder if any of our 4 will make it. Competition will be tough, tough...they will be better players come Monday after returning.
I think there is zero chance any Junior would make the team as it would require something like a month away from school between training and competition - the actual competition is Sept 27 - Oct 5. As for the Seniors ... highly unlikely - the one I think most likely would be Sims, but I cannot think of a PG since Sue who made the transition from college to WNBA very quickly and the league has changed a lot since 2002. And the NT is an even 'higher' transition. And whether any of them make the 'pool' some of that depends on the size of the pool they end up with - a little more chance of that, but I would be surprised - USA BB would want a small pool to contain only possible team members so they can really focus on training and selecting team and alternates. They might do the same thing they did before and create a second 'select' pool to provide training competition. The college kids have a much greater chance of being in pool/on team for the Olympics.

If they play well this weekend, I would not be shocked to see KML and B. Stewart get a really close look and maybe make it. I think USA Basketball will be trying to work a couple of young players in...

Remember Maya had to do class work when she was with them. She had to stay and study while the others went out.

It would not surprise me in the least if one or two college kids make the final roster.Who knows how Breanna will do,but she seems to really enjoy competing against more experienced players, and there will be a ton of those to go against. As mentioned though,I really think that all four UConn girls will use this as a tool as to how they measure up to the professionals, and will use this to work even harder. They all seem to me,to be goal orientated young ladies, and I can see a new fire in their hearts to become even better than they already are.If I am correct, and this instills in each of them a desire and work habit to even become better than they already are,I genuinely pity any team on their schedule this year. Also, what they bring back to their teammates that were not invited, will be invaluable and a great tool to inspire everyone on the team to improve and reach for higher goals as a player and a team.

Considering the stats from teams competing internationally, shooting is an area that KML can help and in the future will be a great consideration.

I agree JR.........This is the pool from which the team will be chosen. My point was that the ceiling is going to be high for any college player competing with the Pros. And they may indeed keep one or two collegians.

I give Kaleena a shot (pun intended). In addition to her ability to shoot the basketball as well as anybody (yes, ANYbody!), she brings a solid court game and a lot of maturity and toughness. She has what it takes and I like her chances.
