It looks like he starts with the ball below his line of sight to the rim, and then crosses up through it to shoot.
Is anybody else seeing that?

Wouldn't it make sense to tell the kid to start with the ball above his line of sight, then shoot?

Do you think the coaching staff has decided that there was not enough time to make such a major change?

If its working leave it alone. The coaches will have next spring/summer to correct it ,if it needs correcting.

I think so. I think that Blaney may have found that he can't shoot with the ball above his head and worked with him to just be able to get it up to the rim softly. Obviously I'm totally guessing, but he never shoots with the ball elevated above his head (allowing it to be blocked more often than it should) and some people just cannot learn to shoot the ball with the classic Ray Allen or Ben Gordon type of form. He came so late that there was not much time to get him the reps to really change his mechanics. It would be worthwhile if he could learn to do it, though.

He is very close to the point where I would just tell him to flip it up there underhand. Or tell him to try to miss - he might miss the miss and make it by accident.

i was thinking that maybe a bp type throw with 1 hand may be best. most misses would be ones that potential he would have a shot at based on the arc of that style of throw. this summer we need to teach the kid how to shoot like a normal player. its sad form to be honest. i've talked about this for a while so i'll just stop.

What about having him just heave it up there off the backboard so he can grab the rebound and slam it? The announcer today also said that Oriakhi was only shooting 53% this year as well. Wasn't he better last year? Clearly, with AD and AO struggling from the line fouling them will be our opponents' strategy especially in close games or if we happen to make the tourney. Both AD and AO need to finish strong to get baskets to minimize the risk from their poor freethrow shooting.

During the Georgtown game I was thinking perhaps AD should shoot foul shots left handed. Couldn't be any worse. Remember the fellow from Loyola Marymont who shot his foul shots left handed after his friend Hank Gathers died.

You can't really just heave it off the backboard or the other team gets to inbound it. You need to hit the rim, so he'd have to practice hitting the inside back rim hard enough for it to come out long, or the front of the rim at an angle for it to bounce upward instead of downward. Tough order for a guy who has such a tough time hitting his free throws, might see some airballs.

I wonder if anybody's shooting stroke was ever fixed over the Internet.
