So it'd have to be in next three years for the women, but Iowa doesn't have a football opening until 2026.

I thought 2024 had a spot but it’s all wishful thinking @ this point.

I'm sure they could get out of their South Dakota St game and we could move the CCSU game to play 9/3/22. A WBB H/H or even 2for1 for a football H/H is a no brainer.

I'd say there is a 100% chance we see a WBB H/H with Iowa in next three years. They are going to play up this Bueckers/Clark match up (the media/tv) as much as they can. It's great publicity and ratings for WBB. There's no doubt in my mind that they make it happen.

If DB somehow pulls out a H/H football game, I will continue to be blown away by his ability to keep pulling these games out and on to our schedule.

If this did come to fruition, Dave is a wizard. Even if we don't get to play them until like 2030 or something. Fewer games to fill down the road and every P5 H/H we lock down would make other schools more receptive to scheduling UConn. Perception is everything. Also, a home game with Iowa would be a huge pull. The last time they played an OOC road game (besides Iowa State) was Pitt in 2014 - and they don't have one scheduled for the future.

Well this is the kind of thing we have figured would be element in our scheduling going forward. Hopefully we can make something happen.

The Iowa OOC schedule at the moment:

Maybe the Iowa AD has flexibility in his Nevada, Western Michigan or Troy contracts to push one of them out. Ideally we could get one game squeezed in before 2025 and the latter could be in 2026 or 2027. Notice Iowa never schedules OOC road games beyond going down the road to Iowa State! If AD David Benedict gets Iowa to East Hartford it would be a major coup. As for us, well we dont care what years because we'll make any years work for this series.

They only have 3 OOC games a year, if one is Iowa State every year, which it should be, they aren't coming to E. Hartford. It's a math thing

5/4 Big 10 away games
which leaves the 7/8 max home games

4/5 Big 10 home games
1/0 Iowa State at home when they don't have 5 Big 10 home games, on the road if they do.

That's 10 games and 5 home dates a year locked up, leaving 2 games which for the Big 10 teams have to be at home. Big 10 practice is 7 home dates minimum for teams that sell tickets like Iowa.

On year's they don't play Iowa State, they are picking another P5 team, any B12 team or SEC team.

Barring a quirk in scheduling that allows them to take a 2nd tier away game, the best we can expect is a pay game away date, which is perfectly OK. Doesn't help the home schedule, though.

If Dave actually pulled this off, then it is truly a scheduling god.

Got to use the leverage you got. Brilliant move by AD Dave if he can make it happen.

Kyle Bowlsby @kbowlsby 1h
Hey @UConnHuskyAD, can we get a home and home series to showcase some rising stars in women’s hoops? Carver Hawkeye would be rocking. UCONN vs Iowa.

Yeah... Kyle's dad is former Iowa AD/current Big12 Commish Bob Bowlsby

And of Course, Kirk Ferentz, as most here know, the Head Coach of Iowa, played here at Uconn, '74,'75, 76, GA in '77. Perhaps he'd welcome his Alma Mater to Iowa City and a return visit to Storrs(East Hartford). Don't get a chance to do that very often in one's career.

I think WBB will bring teams to UConn for fb. Let's pretend Washington wants to schedule a H and H with wbb DB could say ok and we want a H/H with the FB team ..or a 3 home 1 there basketball game... Huskies Bowl...?

Years ago Iowa was on the schedule but was one of those games that disappeared.

Sorry but there are no P5 schools who are going to trade wbb game for home and home football games. Example one is the post above from SubbaBub on how Iowa schedules. A wbb game will have no impact on their football schedule decision making.

That's fine, then Iowa doesn't get a home game against the premier women's college basketball team.

True, some P5 schools like Ole Miss don't require any basketball series for a H&H in football.

The independent model works better when you have other assets other people want. It is the game plan for UConn and it is smart to leverage basketball games for football games.

Well we don't know that for sure right? Could happen
Sure, the contractually obligated '27 Home game at the Rent and/or '28 Away game at Oxford could go away. However, either Ole Miss or maybe UConn would owe its' counterparty some dinero.
