They assure me that I will get a refund if some or all of the games are COVID casualties.

One thing I didn't much like: Those with lower bowl seats in either Hartford or Gampel are expected to make a $100 contribution to UConn Athletics over and above the season ticket price. In my opinion, they should just boil that into the price.

I don't mind the seat license concept. At Arizona we were paying a very substantial football amount (maybe over $300 a seat) and I think $50 a seat for softball and $100 a seat for our courtside floor seats for WBB.

BUT - they eliminated it this year and rolled it into the ticket price. There are 2 factors:
- these amounts figured into your "giving level" for the fundraising arm (at Arizona, the "Wildcat Club"), establishing benefits. For example, at our level, we got free parking for football. NOW your level is determined by what you donate separately plus what you pay for season tickets in all sports. It all comes out pretty much the same, they just adjusted the amounts for the various levels a bit.
- previously, the seat donations were tax deductible (though only partially, but still substantially). This is no longer the case.

That may of course change again, who knows.

I took the leap of faith and bought football tickets, of course they are refundable. My softball tickets were "refunded" but we were asked to donate them specifically to scholarships for our returning seniors taking advantage of the NCAA's extra year. Which we did, Arizona has 6 coming back plus our player that is a member of Team USA.

I found out (the hard way) that many Cable-TV companies do not give refunds on the MLB Extra Innings package......even when there are no games.

Hey, courtside requires 1500. You have nothing to complain about.

I got mine back and all of the spring training games as well from MLB. The airlines I hear are tough but we got our refund just before it got sticky. My daughter's wedding in Conn got canceled. The boneyard is a wonderful way to pass some time.

You mention the airlines. My wife and I had a trip planned for early May. While most airlines will allow you to cancel a scheduled trip without penalty during this pandemic, they will not necessarily refund your payment, but will typically require you to reschedule at a later date.

However, in our case we were able to secure a refund once American Airlines cancelled our original flights and rerouted us through another connecting airport. That change allowed us to request a refund under standard airline policies for scheduling changes beyond our control.

And if you’re a slightly overweight, 66 year old coach, with some prior health issues, do you just take your chances?
Yeah. That's why you get the big bucks. Lead the way.

Old doggy is certainly entitled to do his thing but. . . Riding a motorcycle for over 50 years and almost a million miles has taught me a few lessons. We all consciously or not do the 'risk/reward' analysis for the choices we make. Sometimes our choices are limited by society. I can smoke in my house but I can't smoke in a public venue. My car can do at least 145mph (where I stopped pushing it on the track) but I can't do that on a public road. Why? Because when our choices infringe on others rights there is a line drawn.

If anyone chooses to go unprotected out in public areas during a pandemic its ok, as long as they aren't sick. The issue is when they get sick, and many of them will, they won't know it for quite some time. Time during which they can easily be spreading the disease. Being flippant about the consequences isn't helpful.

I am fortunate that I am not in a mile long line for food now but I can at least understand the reasoning why some folks want desperately to get back to work. Things that are truly optional like sporting events, especially ones where you are in close proximity to others, really seem like a no brainer to me. If I'm not concerned about my own health, that's ok. A responsible person draws the line.

As much as I love UConn basketball I've drawn the line.

I renewed my single seat, despite having little expectation of attending a game as things now stand. Why? Because I want to keep my seat.
And even with the "donation" the per game cost is still a lot less than a prime seat for a 90 minute concert.

Here in Las Vegas our casino host contacted us to see if we would be coming back once it opened and what they were planning on doing prior to letting people inside. We told them that we would be coming as soon as they open as long as there were proper procedures. He stated that all person's coming into the casino would have to wear masks, their temperature would be read outside before entering, and if they had a temperature above the guidelines they would not be allowed in. The slots and table games would institute social distancing and any other State requirements would be met. I asked if the restaurants would be opened, he said they would if the State or City health department allowed them, but the buffet would be closed at the beginning. They are looking for ways to have the cards, chips, and dice cleaned or changed out that is practical. I asked about smoking in the casino's and he didn't have an answer for that, he said that it would most likely be decided by the State or City on if smoking would be allowed to continue. I informed him that I would prefer that if masks are required, then they should not be allowed to smoke inside the casino.

From what I’m hearing on the various ESPN programs today, several schools and athletic conferences are anticipating not only opening up their campus in July for their student-athlete's preparation for fall sports, but their classrooms as well for in-person academic instruction. They anticipate fielding their football and volleyball teams and playing games as scheduled in September.

That makes the prospect of having WBB this year more promising than it did 2 weeks ago.
Classes are scheduled to resume at UConn August 31. That’s 3.5 months from now. I’m an optimist. I think there’s a real good chance the season can start on time barring any unforeseen setbacks.

Of course this would mean that all of the mandated CDC Covid-19 safety protocols were in place and strictly adhered to. Let’s not be too quick to give up on the season in May. Lots of good things can happen between now and August 31.

Joe, I understand and appreciate your position. I’m sure you’re familiar with the old adage that says: No matter how bad you think you have it, there’s always someone who would love to trade places with you.

I’m out here in California, 3,000 miles away. I’ve seen UConn several times recently when they have come west. I’ve never been to Gampel or Connecticut. I’d love to be able to buy season seats period, court side if I could get them. I’d gladly pay whatever additional fee/donation required. I’m jealous. You get to be there and watch the games in person. I have to settle for watching then on TV. It’s not the same. Game day for you is totally different than it is for me.

There are so many things you see in person, that you don’t when watching it through a camera lens. Watching a game in Gampel is high on my bucket list.

Enjoy the games you lucky guy. I wish I was sitting next to you and the rest of my UConn brethren. I’d be in "hog heaven" savoring every moment of it. :)

I check about 4 of the high risk boxes & whether I attend games will depend on the virus. I only go to XL games and even skip if my knees are bad. But I was fortunate to get a lower bowl seat and I want to keep it or improve it in upgrade.
Bueckers is going to be a huge draw and if Fudd chooses UConn it will be a tough ticket.

I renewed my four season tickets for Louisville WBB. We have mid-court seats and I pay a $75 "donation" per seat.

But I'm not optimistic about attending games this season. I'm in the "high risk" category and will am having trouble understanding how I will feel safe in an arena with 10,000+ people.

+1 I'm like you. The best outcome for me is that the games are played to an empty arena. If Bueckers is what I think she is then I'll be tempted to go.

Yes to acts of faith! I will committing a similar act of faith here in Texas as soon as possible. After reading this post, I went to the Texas sports website. They are taking deposits from would-be new ticket buyers, but actual ticket sales, new purchases and renewals, will be sometime later in the year, or so the website says...Whether I would actually go the games, I do not know yet. I might sit home and be grateful for the Longhorn Network as long as it shall live!

Your pessimism and concern are justified!! You won’t be in an arena with 10,000 others. 3,000-3,500 at the most because of the social distancing protocols that will be in effect.

Conference and team medical professionals will determine what protocols must be used before, during and after a game, and be approved by state government officials before a game with fans can be played.

Liability will also play a huge role in the adoption and implementation of any plan allowing fans to attend. No college or University wants be the target of hundreds of wrongful death law suits stemming from fans attending on campus athletic events.
