After baseball playoffs and a heavy work schedule, I have my 4th installment of the P5 +Big East. The ACC has a robust history of the Women’s game with both the tournament and the regular season, incorporated in the 1977-78 Season. This league is the oldest of the P5 and also the one with the longest tournament and regular season as both started in 1977-78 season. There were 7 teams originally with Georgia Tech joining in 1979-80. FSU joined in 1992 and then the Big East defections of Miami, Va Tech, BC, ND, Syracuse, Louisville and Pittsburgh in the 2000’s and 2010’s. The conference is tale of 2 lives, the 1978-2004 era and then the 2005-2019 years due to the vast expansion this league experienced. Overall, NC leads with 33 Top 2 finishes (39.3%), Duke-32 (38.1%), Maryland-28 (40%) and NC State-27 (32.1%) have been the big dogs in this league. However, ND now rules this conference with 12 for 12 Top2 finishes in their 6 years. and also owns a 94.8% winning percentage! From 1978-2004 (before the addition of the Big East schools and the defection of Maryland), the conference was dominated by NC State-25 (44.6%), with NC-22 (39.3%), Maryland-21 (37.5%) and Virginia-20 (35.7%) close behind, showing a more even distribution of titles than any of the other conferences referenced thus far (SEC, PAC12, BIG10). Alas, all this parity only led to 2 NCAA Titles during this time (NC, Maryland). From 2005 until present, Duke-17 (60.7%), outpaced ND-12 (100%) and NC-11 (39.3%) for dominance during this time with a couple of footnotes. Maryland left after the 2013 season so they came in at 7 Top2 for 38.9% and as noted, ND has absolutely dominated in the 6 years in the league Finishing first in 11 of 12 opportunities and 2nd place in the 12th and also owns a 94.8% winning percentage! On the other end of the spectrum are the dregs of the conference. At #1 is Wake Forest who has never finished in the Top2 EVER in 84 opportunities. Next worst is Georgia Tech who has finished in the Top2 only 2 times in 80 opportunities for paltry 1.9%. Overall, I am actually quite impressed with this conferences parity among 7 schools who have a 23.8% or better history of finishing in the Top 2 in either the season or conference tournament. This league has had the most balance of the 4 reviewed so far. Unfortunately, gathering all this information was considerably harder than the others as the conference has a poor media package, requiring my deep dives into the numerous schools' archive media troves. Take a look and add the comments. The table is sorted by Total, then 1st and Win%. My apologies to Triad on posting NCheat above Duke
