While watching the Ia/Neb game today they put up a graphic of 4 NPOY candidates with their pictures and stats. The 4 were Clark, Boston Reese and wait for it-----------------------------------------our own Aaliyah Edwards. Quite a group to be included with in that discussion. It isn't like it was a local telecast on the Iowa City local sports outlet. It was on the main FOX channel with two outstanding announcers.

Maybe she does have a shot at 1st team AA. Interestingly, the one of the 4 whose stats would seem to exclude her from the discussion is last years' winner-Boston. And of course Reese has built her stats playing against The Little Sisters of the Poor.

Well, tomorrow will go a long way to help or hurt one of two of the candidates as we get an up close view of Aaliyah vs. Maddie. As much as I agree that Boston has not been a "dominant force:" this year year, it's hard to ignore the reigning POY on the #1 and still undefeated team. Honestly, Aaliyah Edwards (AE) will be view as a viable candidate when UConn faces off against Boston and SC next week-Feb 5.

Same goes for Angel Reese's candidacy as she faces Tennessee on Monday and then SC on Feb 12.

These two matchups for SC (UConn and LSU) will have to be Boston's stake to keep the POY title as thus far, she really hasn't done much, but then again, she really hasn't had to. While she had a decent game against Stanford, way back in Nov-14 points 13 rebounds before fouling out, it was Brink who was more impressive before she too fouled out.

I am just glad to see some talking heads not simply include Boston in the discussion simply because. Kudos to Fox!

About time the media has gone through the same stages of grief we have and have gotten past not having Paige and Azzi and finding joy in that we still have Aaliyah....

I think she's in the mix for 1st team. A lot of season left to be played but she has the numbers and performances in big games to back up her case. I think POY is Clark by a wide margin right now, and Reese as a distant second. Reese's numbers haven't dropped at all since they started conference play. For 1st team AA I think the following players are safe bets for 1st or 2nd team if they keep up their play and their teams keep winning:
Caitlin Clark
Angel Reese
Aliyah Boston
Maddy Siegrist
Mackenzie Holmes
Aaliyah Edwards
Olivia Miles
Cameron Brink
Diamond Miller

If AW has a great game against SC, it will cement her AA position and if she'll have a better game than Boston, her claim for POY will get stronger.
I believe that the amazing game Paige had against SC 2 years ago is what closed the deal for her winning POY.

That post was fantastic news as Aaliyah is so deserving of ANY awards she might win. Sometimes I think the people giving the awards are subconsciously anti Uconn because of all Uconn's amazing success in the game. Just a feeling. I know there are many amazing players out there and Uconn only has AA's when they can't be ignored. Even for second team. GO HUSKIES!!!!

That's a really good list-I would bet you have at least 8 of 10

I think Boston is in a situation similar to UConn teams of prior years where the team as a whole was so good, the best players would not be given a chance to put up gaudy stats because they would be pulled when the team had large leads so as to give the bench players more minutes. The real test is the performance in tight games when the AA level talent is needed most. Clark, Siegrist, and Edwards have largely carried their teams in many games. I haven’t yet seen a game where Boston had to carry her team.

I think Clark is the odds-on favorite for NPOY. Naturally, I'd love to see Aaliyah win it, but what's more important to me is that she make the WBCA All-America team and thereby get her name and number on the Big Board.

Inspired with Aaliyah I sense she is going to make another step improvement in her game next season as well, she has more development, we are really just getting a small peek of the player she will eventually be.

I looked at Boston's stats too, and it struck me as odd that she was playing so few minutes: she's not in the top 250 players in the country in points per game, and not even leading her own team. Her rebounding stats are better, but nowhere near the top. I realize South Carolina has a strong and deep bench and many of their game are blowouts, but it's hard to make a case for her as player of the year when so many others (Clark, Siegrist, Edwards, and Lopez-Senechal, just to name a few) seem to be doing much more for their respective teams.

I agree with you with everyone of your players. We would have more players except for health issues.

Notice that the number 1 recruit from a few years ago, Haley J, from Stanford is not on your list and probably doesn't deserve to be. She is really good but hasn't progressed as much as you would have thought. Maybe in the next group down, although I think she was 1st Team AA last year. Could that group also include Lou and Dorka?
