She has already said that she would wear it through the end of the year. I say "go for it". It doesn't seem to bother her and she can play without fear of getting hit in the face. The way she is playing maybe she should keep it for next year, too!

Are they really different things? A lot of athletes can be superstitious. Men’s coach Dan Hurley has admitted to washing his underwear in the sink during a tournament this year so he could keep wearing the same pair.

Don’t know, and so long as Aaliyah continues to play like she has been, it doesn’t really matter.

I thought so too, and yet, that didn’t stop me from sharing it.

You have to figure, when she receives a pass in the paint, turns to drive to the basket, the mask has to provide a nice comfort level against getting whacked in the process. One less thing to worry about.

Yes. I actually think the sport should talk about some additional equipment like masks and even innovative technologies to prevent concussions, ACLs, and ankle issues.

It sure seems that the additional pressure that the mask places on her face is helping her ability to perform under pressure.
She recognized its value and changed her mind about continuing to wear it, since she had initially announced that it would only be temporary.
But noses can also be tender and cause issues for a long time after an injury.
Kudos to her for continuing to wear it and setting an example for others to not be self-conscious about choosing to wear one.
Now it has simply become part of her game equipment and it shows that she's smart by being precautious.

She was playing like this without it during the summer with Canada Basketball. She's playing like this with it one during the season. It doesn't matter as long as UConn continues to win.

The bottom line is Aaliyah has attained her comfort zone and now is AA bound. Sometimes it only takes a small blip to turn a player into an all-star or into an unsure player that affects their playing ability. Aaliyah has arrived and will only get better in every facet of her game. THE SKIES THE LIMIT FOR HER AND THE HUSKIES!!!! GO HUSKIES!!!!
