Received the attached twitter message from the AAC today. The conference apparently has 14 players to watch in 2014. Inga, from USF, is one of them. Some may remember she was All-Conference pre-season. Here are her season stats:
1. Started 7 of 9 games. No longer starting. Been injured.
2. Shooting 29.1% overall (23-79)
3. Shooting 26.9 from 3 pt (14-52)
4. Has 25 assists, 17 turnovers
5. Averaging 7.4 pts per game, 21.6 minutes per game.
6. Is 5th on USF in rebounding (36), 4th in steals (9)

I'm confused why the AAC is promoting "14 players to watch in 2014" and Inga Orekhova is one of them. She is having an "off year" and perhaps AAC could do some homework since this 2014 campaign is just coming out. :(

P.S. - For example, her team mate Courtney Williams is leading the team w/ 15.6 pts per game, 42% shooting average. Only a sophomore.
P.S.S. - The 14 players apparently include 7 men and 7 women. The AAC will profile 1 each day for the next two weeks.

She played pretty well against UConn during a generally nauseating UConn-USF matchup in January 2012. And she's pretty cute. I'd watch her.

Also USF was picked to finish 3rd in the AAC in the pre-season poll. They sit going into AAC play with a record of 5-6 and play Rutgers on Saturday.

Orekhova took 35-40% of her team's 3's last year, hitting 35%. A lot were forced from way out in late game comeback attempts. I thought she was a great shooter. She also led the team in minutes. I'd guess that her regression this year has been due to the above mentioned injury and the attention she gets from opponents.

In summary: In a conference that includes Stewie, KML and Stef Dolson, the All American Conference picked a Ukranian born player, recovering from injury, shooting 29%, as their first feature in "14 Players to Watch"......wow?

It might be a countdown....from what they think is the 14th best player to watch for to the 1st. So therefore she would be the #14th.

Perhaps the countdown will conclude with:

9: Saniya
8: Banks
7: Stokes
6: Morgan
5: Mo
4: Bria
3: Stef
2: KML
1: Duh!

Order subject to change as per BY interpretation

Are you suggesting that only Americans should play in the All American Conference?

No, I'd be ok w/ a Canadian....as long as she was a nurse . FYI, Inga Orekhova shot 2-10 today.....1-8 from 3 pt....5 pts, 3 turnovers. I wonder when we can stop watching...??

Most of it was that she was the focus of RU's defense, and also I don't think she's 100%.

Maybe they take their lead from ESPN who have their 5 to watch for the women's season and they won't ever change them regardless of how poorly they perform (see Elizabeth Williams) during the season.
