This is kind of what I keep coming back to. People are looking at this whole thing from the wrong direction - wondering what *we do* with *our programs* and there's just no realistic worldview of what's obviously happening around us. Again. Football isn't viable in this conference because it's not a conference. It's a refugee camp. There's zero stability and assurances of what this conference will even look like in 2-3 years, never mind 10. And you can't be viable in something that could be something completely different year to year. I was very much on board for the idea of letting the next round of TV rights determine what to do with football, but the way the pieces are falling, that's not the case and realistically, we're not going to turn the program around in that period of time. So we're headed into this period with a program that's *legitimately* worthless. SO while it'd have been great to have the chance to figure out what to do over a few years, sadly it's not gonna happen. It's looking like we're gonna have to make the call way earlier than we wanted to. Being an independent isn't an option. The MAC isn't an option. The AAC might not be a conference quicker than we think. There's just no path in 2-3 years to make this an interesting buy for a P5 conference and there's no place to put it for a period longer than that which will help grow it. *This conference* isn't a viable place to grow it. It's already leaking money. So you can't go anywhere but you can't stay here. And that's not even getting into the fact that 'what to do with football' should be like... the third question we ask. First question is - 'what do we do with basketball to protect it and/or succeed in the future?' That's gotta be priority #1. And I think that question needs to get answered really, really, really quickly. Once that's sorted out, then worry about football.
