Tale #1.
Jason Dufner? Who? He's the PGA Tour player who three weeks ago won his first PGA tournament ever in New Orleans, pocketing $1.1 million and change. Let's face it. Anytime you roll in to N'awlins on a Tuesday and leave on a Sunday $1.1 million to the good, you had a good week. He takes the next week off to get married, tees it up in Dallas and wins the Byron Nelson championship for another $1.1 million and change. And for added cool points, he buried a 20 footer on the 72nd hole for the win. Is it as cool as nailing a putt at Augusta or at Pebble Beach? No. But he's nailed a putt on the last hole to win a tour event and you and I haven't. For good measure, consider this. His eighth best pay check this year on tour for a week of playing pro-ams and golf is for $67K and we haven't hit Memorial Day yet.
Tale #2.
John Swofford. He's been wheeling and dealing for a decade and dick smacking the Big East every time he's had the chance. And it's all been good. Middle of May he signs a $1+billion contract for the ACC and everything seems great.
But...... People starting wispering about the Emperor's new clothes and how apparent his clothing is. Then, he finds out that he was playing with Hilton and Trump money when the opening bid was Ellison, Dell and Walton money. And, oh by the way, his conference may be toast by Memorial Day.
