A successful 2021 UConn football season will be 5 wins, beating the 3 teams we should beat: Holy Cross, Yale, and Mass, with 2 or 3 wins against Wyoming, Middle Tennessee or Army,

A very successful season would be 6 or more wins.

A disappointing season would be 3 or 4 wins.

a bad season would be 2 oe less wins.

I think cap is 6 wins this season. 4 is what I'm expecting. 7 or 8 wins is possible if all the stars align and we surprise a couple teams.

I think 3 wins is meeting expectations. Less than that is a disappointment. More than that is a good season. 6 wins and bowl eligiblity would be amazing.

Winning 2 FBS games is a must. Otherwise it’s the same old routine

  • 2 or less- we're looking for a new coach.
  • 3 would be a meh and perhaps not quite good enough unless we looked great and competed in the losses (or if one of the three was Clemson, I guess.)
  • 4 would be a push. Enough to diffuse calls for a new coach, but not enough to get anyone all that excited.
  • 5 would give a sense that we've turned a corner.
  • 6 or more would give a lot of excitement.
Where are we going to be? No idea.

Obviously wins and losses are paramount. I will say I just want to see us competitive and “in the game” all year. Since winning is “learned” it may not result in wins this year but maybe the next year.

Remember the year we went 6-6 in Randy’s first stint…..that team turned the corner and although did not always relate to wins there was a feeling we were getting there. That is what I want this year.

Wins! Give me five and that’s a successful season. But I would even accept less than that if the team is competitive in the fourth quarter, especially against P5 opponents.

I’m in the camp that says 4 is expected. 6 is possible. 8 would mean the moon was in the seventh house, Jupiter aligned with Mars, peace would guide the planets plus love steered the stars. More than 8 and Edsall gets his pick of Towns to name after himself.

I think it would be a success if I actually want to watch the second half of games...lol.

I am on the same page as everyone else. 2 wins....bad year. 3-4....ok. 5 or more is a successful year.
This right here. I think CL82's breakdown is very good, dare I say perfect on the thought process on the win totals.

But my visceral reaction is your first statement. I think we are all done with the 3 3-and-outs in the first quarter while the other team scores 3 TDs on their first 3 possessions. As a Husky fan we knew not only the game was over, but it would never get competitive and the opposition would eventually put their 3rd stringers in.

Unfortunately 6 wins is not bowl eligible if two of the wins come against Yale and Holy Cross.

2-0 vs FCS teams. Beat UMass - closest thing we have to a rival right now. Two other goals: beat a FBS team (not UMass), beat a FBS team (not UMass) at home. We haven't done either of those things since October 2017. 1-26 vs FBS teams since beating Tulsa in 2017, 1-1 vs UMass.

Our schedule is bad enough to make a bowl. A lot to expect, but fair to - we play a lot of bad teams.

I’m more worried about the magnitude of our losses. If we’re on the short end of more than four 49-7 games, I would not see that as a successful year. If we had relatively close losses 4 or 5 times (14-28 or so) and 4 big wins I would call that a success.

Forcing an FBS first string offense to punt
That would put us in a very small cohort the way the current rules are to favor offense. It used to be that if you scored 35 you probably blew the opponent out. Now it indicates that you lost by 3 touchdowns.

Just give me something that resembles a competent FBS-level football team and we'll go from there. Everything since 2016 has been unwatchable.

A few weeks ago DraftKings had the season projection at 1.5. I’d assume that FCS wins would count because it didn’t say they don’t. Sounds like some of y’all need to jump on that...

3 wins will be, to me, an expectant.
Anything north of 3 wins is an improvement and something to build on

Wishful thinking.... but I'd like to see a repeat performance of RE 1.0 where he follows a 2 win season ( Rutgers and E. Michigan) in 2001 with a 6-6 record in his last year at Memorial Stadium vs. a full FBS schedule. He played 1 FCS/D-1AA (FAU) with five current P-5 & 2 AAC opponents in 2002....It's time Randy !!!!

2002 UConn football (6-6 in 3rd year as FBS (D-1A) Independent)

There is a bit of space between successful and acceptable.

The hard line is 4 wins.
