OK, now the overlooked Kia Nurse for the New York Liberty. Kia had an up-and-down season. She came out of the gate raring for greatness. Over her first seven games she averaged 14.6 ppg, including a 34 point game with 9 rebounds against Indiana. But fatigue must have caught up with her, and a weakened Kia over her next 14 games scored in double-digits only twice, failed to score twice, and averaged less than 5 ppg. Then Kia got her second wind in the homestretch, and over the final 13 games, she scored in double-digits five times, and averaged nearly 11 ppg. That stretch included three games over 20 points. Her last game of the season was her best since the Indiana game, tallying 28 points and ripping down 7 rebounds. Overall, Kia averaged 9.1 ppg, with 2.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in nearly 23 minutes per game. Unfortunately, the Liberty did not do well as a team, despite featuring four UConn alumnae on the roster, going 7 and 27 and missing the playoffs. Overall, the class of 2018 UConn alumnae performed well. Kia Nurse ranked 5th among rookies in scoring, coming in just ahead of Azure Stephens. Gabby Williams ranked 8th in rookie scoring. So out of 28 rookies, the fearsome threesome from Connecticut all ranked in the top eight. Of the 9 non-superstar alumnae, they ranked from 14th overall in scoring to 82nd for KML. Of course, there is Kia Stokes near the end of the league. But overall, they achieved solid, if not particularly tremendous years (Tiffany Hayes excepted).
