Is it possible that ESPN, as part of these negotiations(and at the expense of NBC), was informed about planned changes for the configuration of the Big East that no one except conference insiders and college presidents have been privy to? Not trying to submit some wild "conspiracy theory" type idea. Given the fluctuating(and some would say deteriorating) status of the conference, it does seem a bit odd that ESPN would stay the course unless they view the current deal as a very inexpensive way to have the inside track to a much more attractive product in the fairly near future.
