Need some help here from BYers who are more statistically savvy than I. I look at those bracketology charts and my head wants to explode. I have one simple question: What does UConn have to do, seeding-wise, to be in the East Coast side of the tournament? We're thinking about going to the Birmingham games, but if UConn gets sent to Spokane, Birmingham will seem pretty desolate. Does anyone have any guidance about how this could play out, hypothetically?

It ends up being a 50/50 chance. Better teams/higher seeds get placed closer to home. But they also separate teams from the same conference. UConn would have a marginally better chance to stay East as the best #3 seed, vs low #2, but that might be a bad matchup.

Pretty much just have to wait for it to play out. First round games at home though.:D

Not sure what you mean by desolate? Last year Albany was mostly full to watch Caitlin Clark. The year before Greenville was a few K short except when South Carolina played. We hope UConn is in Birmingham, but if they’re not we’ll still see some really good games.

To put things in perspective, we are UConn women's basketball fans first and women's basketball fans second. Also, for a variety of reasons (including my wife's health) , traveling to a tournament can be an ordeal, with the most expensive part of the trip not the tickets, not the air fare, not the hotel, but pet care. We have wonderful animals, but when it's time to travel, man does it hurt the purse!

Anyway, when I said desolate, I guess that was the outlook of people who don't get to see UConn play live very much any more, and would really like to. We have tickets to the BE tournament. I will go, any maybe my wife will be able to as well. As I get older, I recognize that I may not get many more chances to do this kind of trip before it becomes too much to handle, so I'm trying to pack a couple of them in.

Yeah, it is pretty much a crap shoot on where UConn gets placed after that first round of games. Wishing you guys all the best, especially healthwise, going forward.
