A question for my fellow BYers who have been to games at Foxwoods:
I may have the opportunity to travel to New England in late February, and am thinking of taking in some of the Big East tournament at Foxwoods. It appears that the seats that are available at other-than-extortionate prices are in the upper levels in the corners or ends. What are sight lines like in this arena? If I'm maybe 10 rows from the top, will I feel like I am one cheer away from a nosebleed?
Any thoughts or advice would be helpful.
As always, thank you.

I’ve actually never been, but I have heard all seats are ok. It’s only 8-9k.

I think you mean Mohegan Sun, not Foxwoods (someone please correct me if I'm wrong.) I've been in the upper seats, and they're fine. In fact the upper levels at mid court are great for seeing plays develop and watching defensive switches. Not great for hearing the players talking to each other.

You are correct.

It’s definitely Mohegan Sun and the arena is fine. There’s not a lot to do in the surrounding area at that time of year. The weather can be either nice (mild spring) or horribly cold. I’ve been to the opening day games when UConn isn’t playing and even those are fun. The only thing that I would consider early are hotel reservations. If you want to stay at the Sun, you need to make those early. If you’re going to stay nearby, though, there are plenty of choices right off of Route 395. The AmericInn Inn in Griswold is decent and close by.

There is a Fairfield by Marriott Inns and Suites in Uncasville right near the Mohegan Sun. Has a shuttle which runs to the casino. Much cheaper than Mohegan. Last Sunday Mohegan wanted $700.00 for the night

Thank you, everyone, expecially for correcting my mistake. Ileft Connectiut before either was built, so to me, they're sorta the same, even thouigh they very much are not. I do know what weather to expect, and probably would stay in Mystic, where I have not been in maybe 25 years. I collect Hilton points,so would probably stay at one of their properties.

Thanks also for the reassurance about the seats at Mohegan Sun. If I do this, I'll be going to at least the Sunday games and Monday final, and maybe Saturday, too. That can be a lot of basketball, so I really needed to know I would be able to see everything.

A few things, Mohgegan holds 10,000 and the tournament does not sell out. As noted there are plenty of hotels near and they have a shuttle to Mohegan. The problem is even these hotels are charging $250+ per night. Mohegan has a lot of great restaurants and bars including a Frank Pepe’s.

Mystic is a nice trip but remember that Friday is a triple header with the 6-11 place teams. Sat is two sessions with 1-8 and 4-5 then at night is 2-7 and 3-6. I am not so sure going to Mystic at 5 pm makes sense. Basically if you want to go to the BET, you’re sort of locked in to eating and drinking at Mohegan. We have done it for the past 5 years and really enjoy meeting many of the other teams families and friends.

The lines of sight from the upper level are good. However, it can get pretty chilly in the arena so bring a sweatshirt with you. Don’t get seats in the lower level behind the stanchions. As I recall, shots from the corners may be partially obscured. Also, that is the area where the pep band sits. Earmuffs are a necessity.

Mohegan is a nice facility - relatively new, clean, safe, well-managed.

Seating is good both location and the fact that they are clean & new. Fans are excellent, no safety issues & very knowledgeable.

Tickets of late have been much tougher, but they often have "day of event" tickets at the window. Scalpers are frowned upon, but a couple very low key who sell at less than face value. Security is tight and if you like soda they may/may not take your bottle cap on purchase - depending on the event. Some souvenirs available inside, but limited.

Raft of available restaurants at MS.

If you are spending a couple of days Foxwoods is minutes away and hosts many music events of good quality.

BTW - both have gambling should you like.

I've sat courtside and middle uppers. The uppers were fine.
Take a day trip to Mystic. I usually stay at Mohegan Sun and to me there's plenty to keep me occupied. And even more if you leave the property. Foxwoods is fun to check out as well.

If you are going to stay in Mystic, I highly recommend getting some treats at Sift. Yes, it’s ridiculously expensive, but some of the baked goods are just amazing. Our particular favorites are the sticky buns. We also like Friar Tucks for lunches.

Try contacting one of the other Big East schools for tickets. The price for the entire package from a school that won’t have too much interest from fans in traveling to cold CT in March will be less than individual tickets for the UCONN games only. We have previously gotten our BE Tournament tickets from Providence at less than UCONN sold to season ticket holders.

Yah those Friar fans don't like the cold.

To amplify what some others have written, sight lines are fine from the upper deck. There might, however, be seats available in the lower deck in back of the baskets. I remember one time having seats close to where the pep bands are located behind the basket.

There is a Hampton Inn just off I-395 exit 11 (or 10) in Norwich. It is right across the street from the exit. Parking is free at Mohegan Sun. The Winter Lot at the casino is about a five minute drive from the Hampton.

With regard for things to do, assuming that you don't want to lose your money gambling, there is a nice brewery, Fox Farm Brewery, on Music Vale Road in Salem that is about ten miles from the Hampton mentioned above.

The Friar fans don’t generally travel to support their women’s basketball team, which is why BE tournament tickets are available to them.

The Big East Tournament is at Mohegan Sun and pretty much anywhere you sit seats are decent. I have sat in the lower level and the upper for many basketball games here
