We need to be creative, so here is an idea. Have the football schools split with the basketball schools. Tell Pitt and Syracuse if you support this move, you can leave a year early. Tell ND they are with the basketball schools after the split. Why would this be favorable?

By the football schools walking, ND would probably be forced to move to a conference, most likely the ACC. This would set off the next round of conference movement and probably put UConn in the ACC as well. If they go to the Big 10, Rutgers would probably be added. The Big 12 might be more open to grabbing three BE schools, and maybe the SEC takes WVU. For Pitt and Syracuse, they get to leave a year early and possibly force ND into the ACC.

There really isn't much to lose by trying to force ND's hand. More conference movement is positive for the Big East.

Part of what you are saying is a good idea as a couple of the lesser catholic schools (well, at least their fan bases) are thrilled with the idea that enough football members will leave for greener pastures that the remaining schools will be foreced to also leave in order to play football somewhere, giving the remaining eight members $40 million in departure fees and all of the unpaid NCSS credits earned by the football members (which is considerable at the moment). I am sick of the idea that a school like PC will get even more money that was earned by someone else.

The benefit of your idea (especially with the possibility that the football membership will all need to leave anyway) is that the departure fees will go to the few football schools who will be left behind, who truly would be the most deserving as they would have had the most damage inflicted on them.
