If only Belmont pulled off the upset last night. The vaunted SEC would have less teams left in the tourney compared to the lowly mid-major conference known as the Big East.

Just the fact that the Big East equaled the SEC in Sweet 16 representation is a highly quotable stat.

And ... as a percentage of conference size, we did beat them (18% of the BE, vs. 14% of the SEC).

One conference we did beat out, even in the raw numbers, was the Pac-12 :)

So 13 of 16 Power 5 schools left, plus 2 BE = 15 plus the mighty Summit League with South Dakota!

Over at the WNIT
1. PAC 12 4-0 (2 teams left UCLA/OSU)
2. SEC 4-1 (2 teams Alabama/Vanderbilt-Go Shea!)
3. Big East 4-0 (2 teams left Seton Hall/Marquette)
4. ACC 3-1 (1 team BC)
5. Big 10 2-2 (0 Teams left)
6. Big 12 No teams entered

Yep. It is always the Power 5 and UConn, Creighton is a very, very nice surprise. We saw them play years ago, in a tourney at Duke (Gail was the Duke coach and Joe Ciampi was still at Auburn, maybe his last season, so Jim Flannery must have been fairly new, but he was the coach). It was the first day of their in-season tourney and we were passing through on the way to a Rutgers game (maybe at Clemson? or possibly LSU).

Creighton has long been a good team, though obviously not Sweet 16 good in previous years. In consistency to date, they rank among the best of the Big East, along with DePaul and Marquette. The rest of them, Villanova included, have yet to show real consistency. Some of the teams just need new coaching, but again, as an outsider, I see a "glass ceiling" because of the revenue stream(s) at these schools.
