Hypothetical race: one lap around the track at the local high school football field, 440 yards, also known as 'the Quarter Mile'. Since it is hypothetical, we are going to assume that every one of these players are 100% healthy, in their prime best playing condition, and a Zero percent chance of getting injured in our race. We can include Olivia and Aaliyah in this race if you want, for no other reason than they are both in the pic.

Who are you choosing as the fastest on the team in the 440?

I am 100% going with Aubrey Griffin! I think she is the fastest on the team.

Wait, wait, maybe Qadence ... she is like a gazelle! Hum, ... nope, going with Aubrey!

But, KK, ... hum, probably the fastest in a 40 time, but her legs are too short for the 440? Right?

Paige though, ... with her competitive nature, and since there is Zero percent chance of getting injured, you know she is going to trip someone in order to win ...

Nope, going with Aubrey!

None of these kids has short legs. KK is 5'9". In the ordinary world, she'd seem tall and lanky if you met her on the street.

Not counting the hamstring, my money is on Morgan, followed closely by Aubrey, Ayanna and Q, with Paige and KK and Kaitlyn in the middle of the pack.

I believe Griffin is fastest. Considering her impressive hops, Patterson must have a high percentage of fast twitch muscle fiber and I guess her to be second fastest. Bueckers ran track in high school and I saw one clip where she looked pretty fast so I will guess her to be third fastest if the race is longer than a quarter mile, though perhaps Arnold is third fastest if the race is a quarter mile or less. I have no knowledge of the newbies so I cannot factor them in.

Is it Morgan that is still feeling the effects of a HS hamstring injury? If I have that right, she joins the cheerleaders.

Is this the whole team (minus Aaliyah and ONO obviously)? Holy cow that's a lot of players!

Have any of them actual run a 440?

Having done so in high school oh so many moons ago, let me tell you the final 110 is a killer. You legs feel like jelly and twice the normal weight at the same time. The 440 is an all out sprint.

It would be fun to see!!

I wouldn't pick any of the injured. A few years ago, Paige was the fastest--and she bragged about it--but that was because the fastest, Aubrey, and second fastest, Mir, were out with injuries.

The 400 is the second-nastiest race I’ve run. After the 800, which I ran exactly once. Didn’t want to make the same mistake twice, and I ran the quarter for some years, so I know from pain.

For that reason, I go with Shade for a 400. The girl shows no fatigue.

For those who have commented on injuries, the OP says that in this hypothetical race we should assume that everyone is fully healthy and in great shape. Count me alongside those who picked Ash because the quarter mile is such a grueling race. However, it wouldn't surprise me to see Ayanna or Q cross the line first.

If you put 8 440's ..back to back... (two miles).. I would suggest the
"Shady" character = the "Ever" - "READY" , energized,
fist pumping: "A... S... H..."! Go team!

Anyone remember when the men's team used to do the husky run annually under Calhoun? I believe that was a 5K run, at least in theory. One poster who ran it swore that a big man who will not be named was well behind him at the midway point but then miraculously appeared in front of him at the end. He doesn't remember being passed.:)

I watched some of Ashley's training tapes while she was in high school. In some of them she had 5lb ankle weights on and was still beating the others in camp. So I think I will go with her in the distance race.

For what it's worth Geno joked once that with Griffin out after her back surgery (spring/summer of 2022), that Bueckers was back to winning all the team races.
Bueckers does such magical things with her hands that her athleticism is under-rated.

Olympians might sprint the 400m, but sprinting the entire thing is not practical for the rest of us, elite Div I athletes without any experience, included. I pick Aubrey for the 100m and 200m, and Shade for the 400m.

A coach talking about who wins basketball sprints probably means "suicides" which should get done in under 30 seconds (similar to a 200m). There's also a sprint drill called 17s (17 widths of the court), which is longer (more similar to a 400m), but I don't how much that gets used.

Moriah J was in some of the pictures but not this one. In a 40-yard dash, I would go with her. 440? Maybe Shade, but I'd go with Ayanna. [or Hannah Stuelke, not pictured :D]

'Only one hill' this Sat. 7.6 miles, 4650 ft vertical, record 56 min. No snow on summit this yr.

WOW!! That's an average 11.6% grade. It's the kind of thing you see in a grand tour bike race.
