I enjoyed reading your post and you make several good points about the game. The most important positive I thought coming out of the game was that the effort factor showed that everyone who played was committed to Geno’s philosophy of team basketball. Some issues that caused the disappointing result can be resolved others may prove more problematic. UConn allowed too many straight line drives which led to other players having to help up, which led to easy dump offs or fouls. The press sped up some of the younger UConn players which led to open shots that weren’t really taken in rhythm. For every disappointment there were positives to offset them, but to win big games your best players have to look like your best players on a consistent basis. An old axiom in basketball is that to have a great team you need a point guard and a post and then you can somewhat fake the other three positions going small or big but you have to have the first two. I believe if you look at UConn’s best teams they will reflect that old adage. Not sure about your experiences but the best teams I worked with had one common characteristic, and that was balance between those two positions. This team still has a great deal of upside but the makeup of the roster dictates that the perimeter players have to play at a consistently very high level. I am confident that whatever level of achievement this group is capable of reaching they have the coaching staff to get them there. Keep the faith. JMO
