It's interesting to me that elite women's D-I volleyball teams play much tougher nonconference schedules than elite WCBB teams:

% of OOC schedule vs. top 10 (poll) % of OOC schedule vs. top 25 (poll) % of OOC scheudle vs. top 75 (RPI)^

Volleyball top 10 (AVCA poll) 26% (24 out of 94) 40% (38 out of 94) 68% (64 out of 94)

Basketball top 10 (AP poll) 11% (14 out of 123) 24% (30 out of 123) 45% (55 out of 123)

^ 2019 season-ending RPI used for basketball here.

Some notes:

The NCAA volleyball committee incentivizes better OOC scheduling as part of its "adjusted" RPI. Teams get a bonus for playing 50% of their nonconference schedule against the RPI top 75. I would love to see a similar incentive in effect for WCBB.
Volleyball's "standard" OOC season is much shorter and more compressed than basketball's. WCBB has about 8 weeks before most conferences begin play, with most teams playing 10-14 OOC contests. By contrast, VB has about 3-1/2 weeks of OOC play with most teams playing 8-12 OOC contests.
This shorter timeline means the tougher scheduling in VB comes across even more acutely because there are more marquee matchups compressed into a shorter period (and that doesn't even take into account that several of the WCBB marquee matchups take place in January and February).
