Quid pro quo.
Oh wait. That's three words.

Commitment.
At this point, any kind of commitment would be welcome news.

Gotta Stop throwing money at that turd arena.

The problem is that they never do anything right in the first place. Spend the money, do it right. The Duncan Donuts Park is great, but they built it half arse. The civic center has been a incredible addition to the state, from concerts, to the Whalers, Celtic games, rock shows, circuses and on and on. But they built it half arse in the first place. And it freaking collapsed. Watch the I-84 viaduct debacle unfold. They are screwing it up trying to save a nickle.

If they would spend the money to do things right in the first place, everyone would gain in the long run. But every project that comes through the state is done on a cheap. And it cost more in the long run.

Do it right and it repays your investment over and over.

just go read up on all the HS artificial turf field projects over the last decade. Brand new company comes in with no experience. Bids low. Gets the job. Screws it up royally. New company has to come in to fix it. Costs twice as much.

I'll never understand the state of Connecticut. Why on earth do they keep dumping money into the Civic Center? It's a 40+ year old building, putting lipstick on a pig will always cost more in the long run but the state just loves kicking the can down the road. Build a new building for crissakes.

A casino at XL.

Boom.

I saved Connecticut.

I asked at a public hearing about XL renovations.
They need 200,000+ sq ft and 2 floors. Wish it could, but it won't work.

Didn't they just dump $50 million into it? Now another $75 million was just approved. I can't stress enough how dumb it is to keep putting money into an old antiquated building. The shelf life on these arenas is around 25 years, the Civic Center is 42 years old.

It's really bad. Yeah you can cut the project cost in half and do a total reno but that will also cut the lifespan in half as well. Oakland and Seattle did the same thing now one is empty and one will be empty shortly. Peak CT, kick the can down the road build a new seating Bowl on a 45 year old foundation and deal with the problems later.

The issue is Connecticut is broke and doesn't have the money to fix the XL center as needed and the reach out to the local tribes in the last resort.
I would like something to happen, but I won't hold my breath

A casino at the XL would be even better than a shopping mall!

If it only has a shelf life of 25 years why is it such a good deal? If it is such a good deal how come the private sector doesn't do it? No, this is just good old tax and spend. Take a good look at the City of Hartford and State of Connecticut finances. If this were the private sector there would be people going to jail for the mismanagement.

East Hartford Casino

EH developer is trying to get MMCT to develop showcase cinemas in EH again. He is proposing the state to impose an increase of current 25% slot from Foxwoods and Mohegan to 35% for 3rd casino and create a new 15% collection on table games.

Use that $ to fund XL renovations and create a UConn culinary and hospitality schools in asylum hill area.

Another idea he has is to use radisson near DD to use as main hotel for casino have shuttles back n forth, but also create a wrigley roof top type seating on top of hotel. He has ideas of movie screenings and pool parties on roof as well.

http://easthartfordcasino.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mar-29-release.pdf

I doubt any of this happens, but it does sound like a decent regional partnership idea with EH and Hartford.

I've been preaching this for years. Why put it in East Windsor to compete with downtown? Makes no sense. It needs to be built downtown and in conjunction with the XL Center renovation. There is plenty of room for it in the Allyn St./Ann St. area. One casino is not going to turn Hartford into Atlantic City and the trend is clearly for casinos being built in urban areas now.

The thing is that it's not done on the cheap. That Yard Goats stadium costs more than most minor league parks. We get crappy work at twice the price. Don't ask me how.

@Palatine - What about the stadium was done half-arsed? I think it needs more restroom facilities, or better designed ones. The budweiser bar in center field has a men's room with 2-3 urinals, but 4+(?) stalls, and a lot of wasted space. It looks like they realized there weren't enough urinals, and decided to leave a bunch of space for lines.

But could you be more specific? I love the park. We've been several times, and have plans to go back.
