A $42M subsidy. Sports cut. How did UConn get to this point? (Borges/Hearst)

If you're looking for the moment our fortunes changed forever, it was the lawsuit that freed universities from the NCAA's monopoly on broadcast negotiation rights in 1978. This created Div 1A football and Div 1AA football, and canonized a set of rules that would determine the haves and have-nots. UConn chose 1AA and the Big East. It was a unique, if not against the grain kind of alignment choice. Who then could see what the future would hold?

It's not a terrible fate. We have the privilege to compete at a sport and level that still fills arenas and sells ad space. It came really close to being a far worse fate...

Another area they should focus on for cuts is money losing degree prgrams.

What was the financial situation like prior to the AAC. We're we bringing in big time money?

We were making money on football until about 2011. Then Hathaway put his mark on the program and Suzy was over her head.
But on another thread you said she had nothing to do with it. Being over her head implies she was not capable of a responsibility so large and thus was inept.
