Besides hating losing games, as we put it in the review mirror it seems like Im not that upset at Maui. I think we are taking a negative and using it to positive (current and future) results. It gave us a wake up call on attention to detail, but more importantly it has put us in a position where we are a national afterthought right now. As a top 10 team! Maui has the country believing that we are not a serious contender. Meanwhile we go about our business winning every game since with very little fanfare or noise to distract. We may have been overrated to start the season, but we have been underrated ever since. I really like Dan Hurley teams who are sold short. Usually works out for us.

Landed about right. You can sense the SEC getting their due from voters these days, as UK jumped Marquette from 10. They now have 6 of the top ten with A&M coming into the fold. 2 BE, Duke & ISU. Barnes may be the portal whisperer, as he's now brought in one of the top portal transfers out of a mid major two years running with Knecht & Lanier. Meanwhile also letting guys like Aidoo go for the net positive, he's been a bust for Arkansas.

Those top 7 teams right now look like they've separated from the rest in the current. Then you have a few other teams that might figure themselves out and get interesting by year end (Uconn, Houston, Illinois).

A little surprised. We haven't played well enough to move up...but hard to put anyone else above us there.

The polls put little if any weight on how much you win games by. Like -- I don't know- the NBA, the NFL and MLB. I'm not saying the polls are anywhere near perfect by the way -- they're not -- but if you keep winning games over time you will only move up. Which makes total sense if you're trying to reward accomplishments (the only one is winning) and not be predictive (which is where the use of margins and other performance metrics become important).

No movement in the top 5 which makes sense

Thought it’d be Marquette 6/UK 7 but I’m not going to complain too much about UK 6 after winning possibly the best game of the year so far

Can’t punish Florida too much for losing that game, so 8-10 makes sense

Illinois is playing great and flying up the list. Well deserved

Welcome to the top 25 West Virginia!!

St John’s 5th out. Feels like if they didn’t choke against Baylor in November, they’d be ranked

I like how you describe this. I have become more deeply connected to the stats than the polls. That and my 72 point rule of thumb. The defensive kpi’s and the opps above 72-74 make me nervous even with a win. The team right now is more like any number of teams Hurley has abused in the tourney. Teams can kind of get theirs and if they slow down 1-2 of ours then we have a 80-72 exit in the 16. I still think that the D will continue to improve, it’s January, but time will tell.
