NC State (17-1, 6-1 ACC) hits the road for a trip to Pittsburgh Thursday evening, to visit the Pitt Panthers (3-14. 0-6). There is no TV coverage for this game; audio is available for paid subscribers through www.gopack.com, the official web site for NC State athletics.

NC State is coming off an ugly victory against Wake Forest in which it suffered through its worst shooting performance of the season, but has won three games in a row since its only loss of the season to UNC two weeks ago tonight. Pittsburgh has lost its last 10 games, and is coming off an 18-point loss to Syracuse on Sunday. Pitt last stepped into the winner's circle on November 30th, when it defeated Mississippi.

Thursday night's matchup will be the 9th meeting between the teams. NC State leads the series 6-2, and has won the last 5 games against the Panthers. Last season, NC State beat Pittsburgh, 63-34. Pitt has never beaten NC State on its home floor.

Pitt has achieved a dubious distinction. Their RPI has tumbled to #301. I have no data to back this up, but I'm willing to bet they are the first team from a "power" conference to be outside the top 300 of the RPI (in, say, the latter half of the season).

If they beat Duke... would they get back into the top 300? Asking for a friend.

I don't think you have to worry about that. We could be talking a few years until Pitt wins an ACC game, especially after they'll lose leading scorer Aysia Bugg next year.

I imagine most will be watching UCONN/Tennessee. I will have that game on the TV with sound muted.
