Former UConn point guard Crystal Dangerfield of the Minnesota Lynx was named the WNBA Rookie of the Month for August on Tuesday.

Dangerfield, the Lynx’s second-round pick (16th overall) in last April draft, averaged 18.1 points and 3.5 assists in 13 August games as Minnesota compiled a 9-4 record. In 16 games overall including 14 starts, the Murfreesboro, Tennessee native is second among rookies in scoring (15.9) and overall minutes played (28.8) as well as third in assists (3.1). Entering Tuesday’s play, Dangerfield led the WNBA in total fourth-quarter points (102) while shooting a league-high 62.5 percent.

Still, A combination of language barriers and shyness makes her a tough interview and she relies on intermediaries at times.
