I think Arizona at #6 is a tad overrated but they keep winning...

They've really struggled in a lot of their games, but there are a LOT of ranked teams, including some ranked ahead of Arizona, that are where they're at in the rankings despite themselves. Most of them don't look particularly good, or at least they've been quite inconsistent.

I would love to play Arizona as I think UConn matches up very favorably against this team. Maybe the board would appreciate Liv a bit more when they see her against Cate Reese and see the rest of our team against Thomas and Aari McDonald. Paige would take that as a challenge, though I might put Aubrey on Aari...

I think of AZ as somewhat undersized to compete at the highest level. Aari is a rocket and scoring machine at 5'6" but only Reese at 6'2" and Ware are taller than 6' among their first eight in minutes played. Freshman Lauren Ware at 6'5" off the bench has shown some game and is 7th in avg minutes at 18.0. I expect that will increase as the season progresses.

27-20 CO at the half

Very low scoring second quarter

Arizona needs a 2nd half like ASU needed against Utah...

Yeah, good game, now 52-51 with 7:42 to go

There was no way this game should have been this close and while it's not over, more of testament that Arizona is overrated...

Colorado can be a tricky team on their home floor. I'll have you remember that they took Stanford down to the wire twice last season, and Stanford still beat a lot of great teams last year.

Hard to shoot free throws with your hands around your neck. Geez, Colorado could have put Arizona away so many times. Arizona has escaped some tight games. Give them credit, but Colorado made it possible.

The coach of Colorado just said they missed 9 FT’s and lost by three, so disappointing.

Put this one down to lousy free throw shooting by Buffs as Colorado mostly outplayed—let’s face it—an over rated Arizona.

It's almost startling how mediocre the teams are which Arizona has been fortunate to survive. The only mentionable game where they seemed to dominate was the ASU game.

Arizona was supposed to be better this year than last year, based on returning virtually everyone and adding quality transfers. But so far it seems clear they have a long way to go before they even equal their level of last year.

Adia suggested this would not be an easy game. I have no idea why the prediction, but there you have it. I'll give Adia credit, she does know her team.

She did say their road travel procedures are fairly brutal. They are flying charter (which is good but not normal for them) but they are pretty much confined to their room with their roommate. No shopping, no restaurants, maybe a team get-together if a large room can be found. In fact, players are in pods, and as she said, you're in trouble if you don't like your roommate because you are not getting away from them.

For context though there was a sequence late in the 4th quarter where:
  • Fouled, Missed both FT
  • Offensive Rebound
  • Fouled, Missed both FT
  • Offensive Rebound
  • Made 2pt FG
So at least 4 of those 9 missed FT's had no impact of the final score.

I would say that sequence had a HUGE negative impact on the final score. And that sequence was part of a much larger negative sequence that happened in the 4th quarter.

There was also this sequence early in the 4th quarter.
  • Fouled, Missed both FT
  • Offensive Rebound
  • Fouled, Missed 1 of 2 FT
So at least 7 of those 9 missed FT's only accounts for 1 point difference in the final score.

  • Fouled, Missed both FT

After that sequence they were Up 1, 56-55 with 1:10 to go.

Next Possessions:
Fouled McDonald, makes 2 of 2 FT. Down 1, 56-57
Turnover
Fouled Reese, makes 1 of 2 FT. Down 2, 56-58
Turnover
Fouled McDonald, makes 2 of 2 FT. Down 4, 56-60
Made a 3 pt. Down 1, 59-60
Fouled McDonald, makes 2 of 2 FT. Down 3, 59-62
Missed contested 3 pt by Hollingshed.

So we will have to agree to disagree that Colorado's missed FT cost them the game.

Still baffled how some people have Arizona ahead of Oregon. What is the rationale?
