5 of the top 10 scorers in the WNBA are from UCONN...

I'm willing to bet if Stewie, D and Maya went to any other school than UConn they'd still be among the top 10 scorers in the WNBA this year. When you are able to recruit the best of the best, they tend to do well in their pro careers.

That's one of the things that make Coach Geno Auriemma the greatest Coach, he develops his players for the next level (professional basketball).

I'm sorry, I'm with NW - I would bet that at least 2 and probably all 3 of those players would be in the top 10 of WNBA scorers regardless of where they went.

Yes, Geno does develop players better than any other coach - not to be mistaken with the idea that other coaches don't also develop pro players.

For those with transcendent talent - Bird also fits in the category - coming from UConn probably helps them to contribute sooner rather than later, and gives them a work ethic and winning mentality that will stay with them for a long term benefit. But talent of the level of these players will succeed. It is the players who are less heralded - and of lesser, if considerable talent - that have benefited more (WNBA wise) by going to UConn than Bird, DT, Stewart or Maya Moore.

Hayes is definitely a great example of Geno's player development. Players that were head and shoulders above their peers before they ever arrived in Storrs were very likely going to excel in their career anyway, it's a no brainer really. I can't tell if the memes are goofing around or actually offended by my earlier post. I don't see how it's controversial. Recruiting is of course a critical part of coaching and Geno has excelled at recruiting during his career.

Six years after Ms Hayes last game at UConn and it still baffles me that she is not on The Wall.
Tiff was über talented, but she tended to get over-amped in big games and too often played out of control. If she had played like Big Game/Big Shot Bria, Tiff would be on the wall too.

Agree 100%.

So, why IS that?

You are going to have to help me out because I have not followed the Huskies as closely(don't have all the games recorded) since Maya graduated. Other than the Baylor game in 2010, when else did Ms Hartley come through big when it counted?

The last three minutes of the first quarter of the 2013 national semifinal game. A defining moment in UConn history, in my opinion.

Not sure it answers the question, but no doubt that end of the half run by Connecticut set the tone.

It should be noted that Notre Dame, having won the previous three meetings would have made WCBB history had they won the fourth meeting of the year vs Connecticut.
