As the 2016 season approaches us, the Huskies are looking more and more solidified as a contender in the AAC. With experience at the necessary positions and well-rounded recruits coming in this season should be an exciting one.
As watch lists have been announced for the collegiate awards this year, you can expect the Huskies to be talked about a decent amount. 4 players are on 5 lists.

Jamar Summers- Bronko Nagurski Trophy (given by the Football writers association of America and the Charlotte Touchdown Club) for the best defensive player in the country. He is also on the list for the Bednarik Award (given by the Maxwell Football Club) as well, for the best defensive player in the country.

Bobby Puyol- Lou Groza Award (best kicker in the country)

Justin Wain- Ray Guy Award (best punter in the country)

Ryan Crozier- Rimington Trophy (best center in the country)

(In my opinion Newsome should be recognized for something but it's hard to do it for a player that plays at the most competitive position in college football)

It's hard to imagine that any of these players could bring home the hardware, but there is always hope. UConn already has a nationally recognized defense and Jamar Summers is the leader, not only for the secondary but for the whole unit. He would be the one that has the best shot to win, but it's a far stretch. It's hard to see Puyol winning anything if he can't hit a field goal longer than 40 yards. Even though he's did show signs of booting long ones last year. Crozier (the redshirt sophomore) did a good job protecting Cochran last year and another season with them two together can only lead to bigger and better things. Wain, as we know has had issues with kicking the ball long and pinning the opponent inside their own 20. But he had flashes of greatness (to be exaggerating) last year and hopefully another year leads to better punts. Even though these Huskies aren't in top contention it's good to see them getting individual recognition. The team looks in great shape and it should be a good year! Excited to not only see what these 4 players will do, but what the whole team can.

Crozier was injured and did not play last season. Casey Cochran did not play last season and has left the game 2 years ago ( first game injury) due to concussion issues. This years team (2016) has the potential to be very good. If the offense is as good as the defense we will win 9 games.

If Jamar Summers does end up winning the Nagurski, it'll be back to back years for the AAC and for CT connections. My personal prediction is that Foley Fatukasi has the biggest year out of everyone (at least in terms of gaining recognition within the conference and nation).

I think if he runs well, Noel Thomas could be an excellent pro. He has Geremy Davis-esque hands, +agility, +tackle breaking ability. I don't know enough of his route-running skill, which is obviously a more technical discussion than I am prepared to have. Pieces are there.

Summers is clearly the next top level NFL CB out of UConn--I bet he gets drafted in at least the top three rounds, perhaps first if he continues his success. Fatukasi should be an early round guy as well. Don't agree with whoever is scouting Knappe...maybe their rating is based on raw size, but he never seemed to get into a rhythm last year...hopefully this year he finds his stride. Melinfowu has the size to get drafted if he can work on pass coverage skills. He improved on that a lot last year. Thomas is better than the 52nd best WR in the class, no doubt. Has great hands and doesn't have the benefit of playing in a pass happy offense like most WRs at the top of draft boards do. Surprised that Bloom is rated higher than Meyers.

It's now 4 Huskies on 6 watch lists...
Summers Named To Jim Thrope Award Watch List

Summers isn't sneaking up on any defenses this year.

Exactly, which means his stats will probably be down. No known shutdown corner will get as many picks as he had last year--they'll just stop throwing the ball in his direction. Still, that'll be awesome to have half the field on lock :) and jhavon williams isn't a scrub either. As long as we have a decent replacement for Andrew Adams our secondary should be a huge strong point.

Fortunately, I think the voters realize that, and will look at more than just interceptions. I think, with a little improved pressure from the DEs, this defense has the potential to be special.

You copied this from an online college football magazine that has no knowledge of UCONN football, right?

Pretty cool that we have three non special teamers on watch lists, none of whom are seniors. Big things ahead.
