Here are the 3 reasons why we shouldn't trust our doubt about this team. Spoiler: It's all about the coaching.

1. We weren't gonna shut down purdue's 3 point shooting. They're gonna get theirs.

- they didn't get theirs. At all. Nobody thought we'd let Edey score as much as he did either. Unorthodox game plan. Big results

2. The Gonzaga game- how are we gonna stop Timme? This is a bad matchup for us.
- we stopped Timme. We torched the best team in our region. Torched. Not beat. Torched. Against a great coach. He was baffled. They were baffled.

3. My biggest one- T Shannon and Illinois.

- a great coach and a superstar were outsmarted. Remember, this was a bad matchup for us. I want to focus on this for a bit.
We were all so very wrong. We based our thoughts on this game based on things we were so certain of- Shannon is gonna get his and they are soooo well coached.
They took the biggest beating of all time. After the game Underwood was confused. He had no idea what hit him.

All these things that every talking head was so sure of. We were so sure of. This year, we are so sure we can't hang. It's not like our staff is one of the ten best staffs in the country. They are the best. Why wouldn't we still believe this? Kelvin, Nate, Bruce, Barnes... these guys have been around for a minute and had the chances and resources to do what we've done. They haven't. Plain and simple. The last 2 years in the tourney the best coaches in the league were flumoxed by this staff.

Soon as we knew we'd face Purdue, I assumed the plan was to smother the guards vs Purdue and just keep Edey a little farther out than he was used to. It was more "let Edey get his" but make it very difficult for Loyer & Smith to get him the ball or to shoot over our defenders. And that's what we did.

And there was no way any lumbering B1G team was getting close to us last year.

"Make Edey do everything" was brilliant for 2 reasons:
1) Took away one of Purdue's most efficient offensive weapons -- the 3 point shot. They hit 1 all game. One. In 2024.
2) Tired Edey out and made him less effective on the defensive end -- Castle multiple-put-back lay-in, Newton beating Edey at the end of the shot clock, Spencer's fend-off lay-in, back-to-back lobs to Johnson in the second half to push the lead to double digits for good

Our 3-Peat chances took a hit when Flagg chose Duke over us. All indications were he was going to pick UConn. If we had Flagg, I think we 3-Peat. Now, I'm not so sure. We still have a chance if the team picks up their defense & rebounding. We have enough offense to win it all.

All that is fine but that starting 5 (except AK) are not going to be on the court this season.
Last season has no bearing on this year at all. Dan Hurley hasn't found the secret recipe this season and while I hope it's not true, I dont think he will find it in this short period of time. Maybe one game but he needs more than what he has to face Florida.
Not a prediction but gut feeling

Our coaching staff is among, if not the best at scouting and game prep.

Everyone is scouting out of conference for a series of weekend, 2 game one and done tournaments.

We have some very very good talent and the coaching staff to get it done, game by game, week by week.

I never realized that Flagg got almost 4 million. Sheesh. I do think that we have amazing coaches that would normally give us the best chance to win.
The media and the press have almost never been right about UConn in the past tourneys also but why did we lose so many games to mediocre or outright bad teams? One must ask.

I love the premise here. Even last year people were betting against us. Listen, Dan Hurley will have our guys playing on a ONE weekend tourney. Survive and advance. The institutional experience we possess may play a part here. OU is talented, but we should win the game if we play our game. Florida has played better than us this year. But we still have not played a complete 40 minute game. Call me Pollyanna, but I think that game is coming....this Sunday.

There were never indications Flagg was going to pick UConn, his dream school was Duke and his whole family were Duke fans. You gotta step outta the troll dimension that you reside, it's getting beyond weird and corny.

Stop. UConn was never in the lead for Flagg. This is such a silly thing to keep on...it makes the fan base look freaking cuckoo.

Ha I missed your reply before I posted mine, but I agree this is insanity

We’re an 8 seed for a reason stop trying to get my hopes up and let me be pleasantly surprised if we make the sweet 16
Right now the best minds in the game are planning on how to win the first 2 games, on a neutral court and with less handcuffs, and it wont look like anything like what we see in the BE...just sayin...

I definitely think we'd have three-peated if Clingan returned. Remember how he said he was coming back because he loved college and got talked out of it?
