3 Pt FG Defense

They're also around #45 in the country for opponent 3pt FG made per game at 6.3.

Last three games since Xavier.

PC- 4-13
DePaul- 3-12
Butler 5-15

That's 12-40 (30%).

For the season UConn is 146-392 (37.2%). Opponents are 94-249 (37.8%).
We have tightened up the 3 point line and opponents understand this and are driving to the rim….and making them. Hurley talks about our man on the ball defense not being good.

I think it's somewhat like last year except no 7-2 elite rim protector - not just blocking shots, also changing shots and changing minds about even taking shots.

Castle and Newton offered a whole lot more resistance at the point of attack and were harder to score over close to the rim.
Each of the last two years the team had a lock down on-ball defender who could guard the other team's best player 1-4 in Jackson and Castle, Clingan at the rim, and Diarra off the bench. So difficult to replace either of those first two.

And as good as Diarra is, he can't really be asked to guard the opposing 3 or 4.

He did guard Tre Johnson really well in stretches as was in his shirt. Tre is a classic 3. I'm not sure they can take him off Brickus in this one.

Tre shot 9/17 in that game. He played tough defense but the height difference was too much to overcome.

We're missing a lot of height at the 1 & 2 this year which doesn't help.

Totally agree and we’ve had a lot of success with big guards, but size of your heart is also important. Napier and Boatright were tiny guards and beat three Top 20 offenses on their way to a national championship. Napier was an excellent rebounder and Boatright was an elite defender. Results are often about effort and attitude.
