In many of these years, UCONN had players who were #2 or #3 overall recruits too. IIRC, Cash was the #2 recruit after Williams, Jefferson was #2 after Stewart, Dangerfield #3 in 2016, possibly others from way back.

Interesting notes:
-UCONN has only won titles while having 2 #1 recruits/HS POYs on the roster. UCONN has never won with 1, and they lost with 3 HS POYs in 2001 and 2008.

-Assuming no transfers, UCONN will have at least 3 more years of two top recruits on the roster with Walker/Williams.

-This year with be the 28th straight having a former #1 recruit or HS POY on the roster.

-UCONN would've had 2 HS POYs on the roster every year from 1999-2016 if EDD didn't transfer and if Hunter picked UCONN from the get go.

-The last time UCONN didn't have a #1/HS POY on the roster was in 1991, which was actually the year of Geno's 1st Final Four, and well before 99% of us knew anything about Connecticut basketball.

-The only person who has ever came close to stockpiling this type of talent was Pat Summitt, but she only landed a handful of #1s despite regularly landing kids that were 1st team Parade All Americans or top 5 recruits.

Nice work! If the 2008 Brit Hunter had been the player who was recruited out of high school, that team would have won it all. Brit was really good until injuries slowed her. She could give us only 5-10 minutes per game.

I only started watching UConn around the time of Maya, but I have heard about Brittany Hunter before. This question is for anyone, what kind of player was she before her injuries?

Brit was a skilled big, sort of a cross between Tina Charles and Candace Parker.

From the Duke website:

"A three-year letterwinner at Brookhaven High School, Hunter was a McDonald's and WBCA All-America selection as a senior under head coach Reggie Lee. As a senior, she averaged 23.5 points, 17.6 rebounds and 6.0 blocks, while being named the 2003 Parade National Player of the Year."

Brit was big, strong, agile, and skilled.

She also competed in the McDonald's Slam Dunk contest in 2003...May have been the first female baller to participate? She doesn't actually get an official dunk but she's able to get up there which shows her athleticism for 6'4".

Tamika came in 98-99 season... and it is the 18-19 season... so in 20 years UCONN has recruited 11 #1 players out of High School. That is something to really think about. WOW. Of course now I want to go back and look at who was #1 in the years we did not receive them.

Question, where are you getting these marks as #1 players? Is it who won the National High School Player of the Year award? Only ask because I was unaware Jackie Young was the top player of her class? I always thought it was considered Joyner Holmes or Lauren Cox as the top player in rankings. Then Erin Boley won National Gatorade Player of the Year that year. At the same time Sabrina Ionescu won two National High School Player of Year awards.

All in all though, it's crazy amounts of recruiting success by Geno, CD and company.

I googled it.. and I believe I used the Naismith player of the year... there are like five or six ratings... if you can find someone else please let me know. I saw one where EDD was not on the list but Nneke was.
