Well, as much as I would have loved to have seen the team grab a victory, the fact that it was the second road test of the season for many of the key players (AD, RB, DD) gives me pause.
The team was punched in the face last night, no doubt about it. I've heard players throughout the years talk about trying to explain life on the road in the Big East to their new players (frosh) but not being able to fully prepare them; that only after playing these games will the new players understand.
Not overly disappointed. Saw some tough mistakes (including several by our more experienced players) - but the team growth should be evident during the balance of the season.I'm sure that there will be another hiccough or two along the way - but the goal is to get better by March.
In another post, someone mentioned how few regular season road victories the team had last season and I believe that this team will exceed that total as well as the overall BE record of last year.
Our young team (1 junior, a couple of key sophs, and a slew of frosh) will grow from this game.
Seton Hall is a pretty good team. That PG would have looked good in National Flag Blue and White. Pope was a monster and they outplayed UConn in too many facets of this game.
Hoping that UConn gets another shot at them in the Garden (say, in early March) - Our team is growing before our eyes. I'm convinced that the keys to this season don't necessarily involve this player, or that player "improving" rather, that the 5 on the court (or the 8 or 9 regulars) become more cohesive. Last year seemed to be Kemba and the supporting staff; this season will have to become "our 5 will outwork and outhustle yours". In this regard, teams will really not know which Husky will kill them, only that one or two of them eventually will.
Again - it's only 1 loss (and not really a bad one at that) - The team is 2-1 in BE Play (with 2 on the road) With 15 more to go (I did the math and everything, so I know that it is 7 more on the road and 8 at home) I feel that 11-7 in BE play would be the lower end of their expected Conference record, with the higher end depending on the continued growth of the team as a unit.
I have always been of the mind that "the journey is more the goal than the goal" I enjoy watching the team and players develop each season (with associated ups and downs) - But Mr Calhoun almost never fails to get the best from his teams come March.
Let's enjoy the ride!
