Lots to figure out.

First is who is back and who is healthy and ready.

Kk - shade - Blanca - Ss likely starters.

Probably Jana or Olivia as 5th. But maybe AllieZ or Heckel.

That’s not the most intimidating lineup. I would sluff off KK Shade Jana.

Not sure what to expect of any of the rest — cheli ice Ayanna Gandy Kelis Jovana.

SS needs to come back pissed. As I said during gsme chat, hopefully this is like 2001.

I think UConn need shooting. Even this year’s team could have used more shooting; but unfortunately Allie largely fell out of the rotation in the tournament.

I have seen popovic. She looks like a point guard more than a shooting guard based on the highlights I have seen. Her highlight videos were primarily drives to the hoop.

We will have to see if anything can be done in the portal. I think on paper, USC, South Carolina, and Texas look a little more talented.

We have scorers ( I know they didnt show up tonight) what we need are rebounders. Bigs who can hang onto the ball. Bigs who can grab a rebound and put it back up.
You’re right, but to me being a reliable scorer starts with being a reliable rebounder. I want someone who feasts in the paint.

.-.
I wish we could get another KML or KLS type player. Two players who always hit clutch 3s. We need that type of shooter.

Hopefully that is Allie. More "hoping" than I would like, but it is what it is,

Blanca should make a sizable leap.

K9 is going to come back much better next season as she enters her second year at UConn (she isn't all that far from supplanting KK now so that improvement will be a help to the offense).

Allie should be better. A lot of it is about confidence with her so a healthy summer/fall will be important.

The coaching staff needs to find a way to incorporate bigs along with the speedy lineup.

Ash and KK are what they are and then lots of question marks. Not overly inspiring, but not terrible either.

Sarah will be starting. I don’t see him flipping on KK and Ashlynn for the senior year, so they’ll start. Blanca really needs to start. The last starter needs to be Jana or Olivia. I’m inclined to go with Olivia, she can shoot from the outside. So that brings the opposing center out beyond the paint to guard.

K9, Fisher, Morgan, Allie, Jana and Ice, are a nice 10 for a rotation.
Depending on if anyone leaves, getting another forward would be nice, for insurance. But as of yet, no one in the portal moves me.

I like have five reliable scorers in the starting lineup, including at least three 3pt shooters, plus some skilled, coordinated height.

Absent grabbing Hannah Hidalgo and Joyce Edwards from the portal, I hope the following lineup gets some serious consideration:

Sarah Strong
Blanca Quinonez
Olivia Vukosa
Kayleigh Heckel
Jovana Popovich

If we do get someone from the portal, I hope it isn't a senior As much as I was hoping that Serah would become a star this season, I think a "big" needs more than one year to develop at UConn. (Think Dorka Juhasz.)
But I would welcome another Lou Lopez Senechal for a non big.
The next 17 days will be interesting.

I wouldn't forget about Jovana who is a bit of an X-factor in assessment. If I had to take a wild guess she is getting steady minutes off the bench next season. She appears to be a three-level scorer which would come in quite handy.

I’d be very surprised if Vukosa starts over Jana. She may become a starter over Jana if Jana doesn’t perform well but If Geno starts a big in the middle, I think it will be Jana, at least until January or so. I guess Okeke is out of the question at this point? Anyhoo, I hope Geno finds a diamond in the portal! Next season we will finally see if Allie can step up and be the primary three point shooter. Will she continue to improve on defense? Will she reach a level where her point production forces Geno to keep her in when the going gets rough? Stay tuned!

Imo, Ash played the best of anyone in today’s game. I’m pretty sure her’s and KK’s jobs are safe for next year. Hopefully, KK will be shooting thousands of threes over the break, Morgan will get fully in shape, Jana will work on shooting & hands, Olivia will get herself in the best shape of her life, ditto, Allie, Blanca, Jana, K9, Kelis, Jovana, and Gandy! Finally, let’s hope Sarah comes back on a mission! She can’t catch Stewie but Dee is still a possibility! Oh, If Ice and Yanna come back, let’s hope they too show up in phenomenal shape.

This was a bad loss caused by a number of things; SC played better, we couldn’t get out of our shooting slump that started several games ago, (Ash being the exception, though she still struggled with threes) and we just seemed tight from the start. Of course, when you cannot make a shot, things tend to go downhill fast.

Still, this team is immensely talented, we still have Sarah, we still have Geno, and we will once again imo, compete for the title next season. Once again however, the road to that title will have to go through SC, I believe. UCLA is done after this year, Texas will take a step back, USC may step up and I think Duke will also be a contender. Shea will be a threat, and Michigan and Kentucky will be as well! (LSU is a mystery)

A bit of a sad ending to what has been until today, a glorious season. I feel for the team and for Geno, who will now be crucified for what admittedly looked like a petulant outburst against Dawn. I feel bad for him as I do think those two really don’t care for each other. I don’t much care for her either but it looks like he was clearly in the wrong here and barring an apology, (unlikely) he is going to get it from the media for awhile! All we can do now is hope for a healthy season next year with a better ending. Here’s wishing all the best to my fellow Boneyarders! Go Huskies!❤️

There are so many unknowns regarding next year.
What is sure? Sarah will be the centerpiece, Blanca the talented co-star, and Ash, KK and Kayleigh will be important rotation pieces.
We don't know if Blanca will seriously address the issues which stand in the way of optimizing her tremendous talent.
We don't know if Allie will be able to make the leap to being an important defensive cog and go-to scorer on a consistent basis.
We don't know if Jana will be able to improve her anticipation and mobility on defense and be a realistic threat on offense.
We have no idea about whether Gandy has developed enough so that she might be part of the rotation or be, perhaps, an impact player.
We don't know whether Morgan will be an improved version of her 2024-25 self or will she have to work to shake off a year of rust from inactivity.
We know that Olivia has great promise as a scorer and passer, but will she be able to rapidly absorb defensive schemes quickly enough to deserve big minutes.
We have no idea how Jovana's game will translate to playing in UCONN'S offense and defense.
We don't have any idea if Ice will be able to play (& be effective).
We have no idea if Kelis will be able to make a leap defensively and understand and embrace UCONN'S offensive concepts (& rediscover her outside shot).
And, we have no idea if Yanna can recover and develop enough to be a rotation piece and an answer when playing tall, athletic front courts.
We do know, however, that we have the best coaching staff and that their (& all returning players) dedication and motivation will be even more acute following yesterday's disappointing end to their season.

Hidalgo is mentioned as possibly considering Texas. So Is Audi Crooks...leaving Iowa State.

Feels like our starting backcourt is penciled in. KK (5’9) and Ash (5’10). Off the bench we have K9 (5’9) and Z (5’11 or 6’0). Kelis is small, Jovana is small. Cheli has size but TBD how she comes back. So the backcourt doesn’t have too much size or length

Then it gets interesting from 3-5. Blanca (6’2 and athletic), Sarah (6’2). The 5 is a bit of a mystery. Jana, Gandy, Olivia are all 6’5. I’d love for Jana and Gandy come back with major improvements in their game. And I hope Olivia comes in ready to compete for minutes. Sarah does well in the post because she’s so strong (ha), but with less talent in the backcourt than previous years, I think we need to establish a strong paint presence on offense and we need size to do that

If we hit the portal, I’d like to find either a SG/SF with athleticism or a dominant big if we don’t think ours are ready to dominate

I would prefer not to see a starting lineup with 3 small guards (KK, K9, Shade), Blanca, and Sarah.

Geno needs to portal for a players that can create. Too many jump shooters that can be easily defended. This group doesn’t scream title contender imho.

They definitely need “consistent” rebounding. After the first few games of the season, I knew rebounding was going to be an issue against the better teams. They just didn’t get that from the 5 position. Not sure who they can pick up from the portal and be a good fit at this point.

Predict that UConn's overall offensive ball movement will change next year with more focus on bigs taking a greater % of outside shots. Big O is a solid shooter from the key and may get help from the transfer portal (a big who is both a shooter and shot blocker). UConn can beat most of the teams in the US with Strong and Blanca as the bigs but will need more help if they get to Final 4 next year. Geno will have to scheme up more plays for Shade and Ash. Good shooters who thrive in open shot situations but not able to manufacture their own shots. Doubt we will see improvement by K9 or KK. Thats OK since both are skilled defenders with high energy. Suspect that Morgan and one other new guard will cut into their minutes.

I love KK and especially her defense, but it’s difficult to have a point guard who cannot create her own shot. We also need a big that can really dominate and take some of the pressure off of strong. I hope this is addressed in the portal.

As a team we were a good but not great rebounding team against the majority of our opponents, but relatively weak against the very best teams, who were great at rebounding. The reason, however , was far less that our players were weak rebounders, and far more that we played small ball to the extreme.

That was largely by choice, with plusses and minuses. Better perimeter shooting and a better turnover margin in exchange for a far reduced rebounding margin. We did not play true 5's, 4's or 3's for 40 minutes a game at their natural position. Serah or Jana at the 5, Sarah at the 4, and Blanca at the 3 would be a traditional lineup that would be pretty good at rebounding.

Jana at the 5, Olivia at the 4, Sarah at the 3, and Blanca at the 2 next year would be going big and a great rebounding team if used. I don't think some realize the extent that we went small this year. For significant parts of the game it was extreme. When Geno was not happy with play from his 5's, his solution was to replace a C with a SG.

That in essence is what he did. Ash, Allie, or Azzi would come in to play the 3, Blanca would move over to the 4, and Sarah to the 5. Small ball at all three positions. So when one of our 5's was not in the game, the player replacing them was generally a guard, and others moved up one position.. When Sarah got a rest we didn't use a backup 4 like Ayanna, but went the guard route once again. So we didn't play our bigs for anywhere close to 80 minutes, and also used a guard at the 3 for a majority of the game.

As far as additions go, I thought Okeke would have been great, because she and Olivia could have played together with Okeke the 5 on offense and the Big O the 5 on defense. That combination would allow Geno to at least consider a big option moving Sarah to the 3 or Blanca to the 2.

With Okeke going elsewhere, at this point I think a top flight 4 or 4/5 would be the best addition. Yes there will be a drop off from Azzi, but in Ashlynn and Allie, natural 2's we have two proven high level options, with others that could compete as well. We don't use a backup 4. If our C's can justify 40 minutes a game, and we get a playable backup 4, Blanca can concentrate on the 3, and if Morgan returns healthy maybe we don't have to go small ball ball, but we still could. Ideally small, traditional, and even big are all possible good options and we use whichever combo works best, and have the ability to adjust to opponent and game situations. This year it was small ball no matter what.
