Top 9th, Wang with a scoreless inning with 2 strikeouts. He had his control today, which you can't always say. UConn wins 10-1.

Chris Jones suggesting Wang may be a midweek starting option if he keeps this sort of thing up.

Wang didn't travel on the road trips according to Chris Jones, which would certainly limit the opportunity to pitch.
I get that… I mean the whole disappearance since he seemed to be the next coming.

Coach Penders says Braden Quinn has a potentially bright future with UConn, terrific first inning.

According to Coach Penders, Jimmy Wang earned his appearance in this game in his work back in Storrs while the team has been on the road. Penders says they have been getting good reports on his work, plus Wang pitched well in front of Coach MacDonald recently.

Also, some good stuff on third string catcher Ryan Hyde.

Looks like Wang has changed his delivery and is hiding the ball better. If he can throw quality strikes, he could be another option.

After watching Jimmy Wang struggle with his control while he was playing summer ball in Norwich last year, I thought we may had seen the last of Wang getting a real chance to pitch all that much at UConn. Well, Wang had his control and was throwing strikes in the game today, and did very well. Recommend that you give a listen to the post game interview Coach Penders, as there is some good stuff on Wang in that interview.

Jonesy referenced Wang's control issues and Penders talked about all the good work he had put in recently. Maybe he gets more reps moving forward?

We'll see how good Wang's control is in any future appearances. That will ultimately be the deciding factor, in addition to what he shows to the coaches between games and such. We'll also see if Wang starts traveling with the team on the road, which will give a better idea of what the coaching staff thinks in terms of him contributing to the team. Up until now, there have been about 15 other pitchers who have been traveling with the team on road trips, the question is, can Wang move ahead of any of these guys on the pitching totem pole? And even if he doesn't, there is nothing wrong with having more pitching depth assuming he can repeat appearances like this in future games.

Jonesy breaking some news about transfers already in the fold... just awaiting NLI day
Yes, heard the same thing. He said they were D1 players. Are these guys who are sitting out this year. If they are currently playing is it possible to have already worked out the transfer, wouldn't think so?

One more thing on Jimmy Wang. Just before the season started, Chris Jones interviewed pitching coach Josh MacDonald about the pitching staff. In that interview MacDonald mentioned almost every pitcher who is on the UConn baseball roster this season. One of the guys who did not get any mention at all in that interview was Jimmy Wang. Considering the coaching staff seemed to have great hopes for Wang's potential in previous years, I took it as a sign that their expectations for Wang had come down quite a bit. Whatever improvements there have been to Wang's pitching would seem to have come since the season started. Still, we'll have to see where all this ends up in terms of him making positive contributions to UConn pitching.
