24 of the 38 March Madness 64-team tournaments have had a #1 seed win, with UConn winning once - less than 3%.

Regarding the 14 non #1 seed champions, UConn has been national champion 4 of those times - 29%.

Therefore, UConn should start Hurley Jr. in Chicago to get out of a #1 seed.

But your math isn’t representative of anything meaningful. I think We’ve only been a 1 seed 5x and we won it all 1 of those times which equals 20%. We’ve made the tourney 18 times since 1984 as a 2 seed or Below and won it all 4 of those times which equals22%. So yeah we’ve had 2% lower chip rate as a 1 seed. But give me the 1 seed

Yeah, but they've been the overall best team twice when they weren't a #1 seed - 2004 and 2023. Their conference record last year may not had reflected that, but their out of conference dominance did.

Why are they called seeds?
Let me google that for you:

The term was first used in tennis, and is based on the idea of laying out a tournament ladder by arranging slips of paper with the names of players on them the way seeds or seedlings are arranged in a garden: smaller plants up front, larger ones behind.

I read that. Doesn't really make sense. And a #1 seed would be no different than a #24 seed. Rungs make sense on a ladder not seeds. Anyways, appreciate the work you did. It is just a strange use of language.
