Good game so far with Lee vs. Collier as the headline. 8-2 K-State halfway in the 1st quarter. We get to find out how good Collier really is with against a legitimate opposing big in Ayoka Lee.

Well, the 1st Qtr ended at 12-12. 9 turnovers each team in the quarter

Terrible passing by both, as each team thinks, dribble, dribble, dribble. No swinging of the ball across and back, just ugly...

Honestly, the problem with this game is the referees are inconsistant. Lee has 3 fouls with 19 fouls called in the 1st half alone and another 5 probably should have been called on Texas. They are blocking the players from moving on the inbound pass and swatting at the ball without the ref calling anything. KSU is still terrible at the inbounds play but this is ugly. The game plan has been to get the ball to Charlie for some kind of inside shot and Collier has 18 points. Texas is overly physical and getting away with it.

If the KSU guards can't bring the ball up court and get the ball the Lee, this game will turn into a rout...

Lee 6 pts, 0 reb, 2 TO, 1 stl, 2 blk in 13 min (because of 3 pf)

Collier gets stuffed by Lee.
And, then Lee picks up her 4th foul pushing Collier in the back as Texas tried to inbound the ball to her with like 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

So much for Lee being an elite post player. Collier took her lunch money, ate her lunch, robbed every item from her wardrobe and brought them to the cleaners. The two front runners for Big12 POY are Collier and Joens from ISU. Games against Baylor will determine if someone from the Bears steps up to contend...or which of these two players shines against Baylor...

Kansas State has struggled a lot this year, but yet Manhattan KS has been a very difficult place to play for some decent to good teams. Kentucky needed a late comeback to escape with a win, and if not for Ayoka Lee's injury early in that game, would have been whipped like an ornery horse. South Dakota State did not get the same lucky break as Kentucky, and saw their undefeated record go, well, south as Lee had a very strong game.

By comparison to those two teams' experiences, Texas handled the trip to KSU quite well and remained in firm control for most of the game — and did so without a very key player in Celeste Taylor.

It's fascinating to see this Texas team becoming a Vic Schaefer team. A work still very much in progress, but let's recall that Vic never really was a "win pretty" kind of coach at MSU. Forcing 34 turnovers and holding KSU to only 36 FG *attempts* (compared to 62 for UT) does fit in that process, I'd say.

My read is that Lee is the better defensive post, but Collier is by far a better scorer and all-around player.

I know this is a weak draft class, but Collier just doesn’t seem like a #1 pick for me. She has a tendency to disappear in games at times. That said, she’s put together plenty of gaudy stat lines, and did so again tonight.

Texas’ defense looks good, in my opinion. Schaefer’s imprint is certainly there. The ball movement and passing seem to be issues.

Coach Schaefer pleased despite losing 22 point lead:

@southie, no Celeste Taylor in the box score? Injury? Prognosis?
She's missed the last 2 games due to a foot injury sustained in practice; she's been in a boot, but did travel with the team to Kansas State. Schaefer indicated she'd be back after Christmas. So, that could mean our game against Lamar on 12/29, or against Iowa State on Jan. 3.

I'm surprised we could build a 22 point lead at KSU without Celeste; our other guards really played well defensively in her absence.
