20 years ago today Lloyd McClendon, at the time Pittsburgh Pirates manager, made history by stealing first base. Upset at a close call that went against his Bucs, McClendon argued vociferously with the umpire. He was ejected from the park, and went back to kick dirt as all good managers resort to at that juncture. However, he made a monumental decision that became instantly infamous as he bent down, ripped the base from the ground, and walked off with it under his arm! It was hilarious.
