2026 UConn Football Commit - Joshua Mikens (Indianapolis, Indiana)

#101 prospect according to On3 out of high school. Basically hasn't played.
Played 8 games this year, as well as 5 last year. Does seem to have played limited snaps though. Last year had a sack and TFL in his game against Purdue. Also apparently made it on the field for their national championship game. Love bringing in a dude with experience like that.

Welcome, Joshua!

This is fantastic news. I love that we are bringing in kids from winning programs who have more than one year of eligibility left. It is like Candle recruits each year to maintain a good mix, so we aren't left with a large senior class and have to restart from scratch.

Exactly what we need. A high quality player from a dominant P2 program stuck on the bench behind elite athletes. A lot of our sacks and pressures last year relied on various blitz packages. Guys like this will allow us to keep more LBs and DBs in coverage.

A multi-year strategy, zigging when everyone else is zagging? Dan Hurley has the perfect mix for basketball; can HCJC2 find something similar for football? A much harder proposition but if he can be 70% as effective we'll be fine.

@huskymedic doing double duty posting here and on SC. I've always wondered, how many devices/screens do you have to keep up with all this? I have the equivalent of 3-4 monitors I'll use for work, and it still doesn't seem to be enough. ^_^
I always picture him as the character in Empire Strikes Backthat was on cloud city with Lando. Had the cybernetic implant on his head. When UConn news hits, his eyes pop open and he gets to work. Maybe even has a docking station like a roomba or that annoying robot at Stop and Shop.

I'm especially excited about this one. Ohio State stacks depth in the defensive front seven and unlike their secondary where the athletic freaks get to play freshman and sophomore year, they tend to give kids time to develop. For every Bosa, there are 5 kids who didn't see the field until their junior year and they are all Big 10 by senior year and drafted. I'm honestly shocked he didn't end up at another Big 10 program. Also, all academic Big 10 kid and an engineering major. Along with the RB from Northwestern and the QB from Tennessee, this is right up there.
Great work by Candle and staff. He's an Indiana kid. Wonder if he was being recruited by Toledo before his stock rose senior year. He was top ranked recruit in state of Indiana.

"Jim Mora" , you said?
with a "J"?

.... hmm............ no..... doesn't ring a bell.
Not to pile on Mora because he did help resurrect this program, but he was not willing to put in any more work than needed to get us competitive before he left. I think we will see this hire as one of AD DB best hire and that is saying a lot.

“Help resurrect”?? “Not willing to put in any more work than needed..”. The guy saved us! This program was dead. 1-11, 2-10, and 1-11 the three years before he arrived. Came off a coach who quit. We skipped the 2020 season. He took us to back to back 9 wins. Beat some P4. Drove improved NIL to a place where we could compete. The list goes on and on. I’m not happy he left but holy cow does this do a complete disservice to what he did.
