The Ace's managment really made a major mistake taking Jewel Loyd instead of LA first round pick for this year. I guess they thought they could replace Plumb with Loyd. I thought Loyd would be better defensively than Plumb but it did not work out that way. People always assume that speed equals great defense, but Loyd is not a good defender, especially in off the ball and switches. She is also very streaky and they same type of player as Young. The Aces lost their chemistry the season Gray was injured and never really got it back. Where they really screwed themselves was in their three way trade. The ended up with Loyd instead of Dominique Malonga a future star at the very position the Aces need. The Aces are hurting so bad in the post the end up having to play Gray at the four out of necessity rather than a match up choice. I guess they figured they would contend this season and did not want to waste it on a rookie. I never thought Loyd was a good match for them to begin with. Too streaky and not really a good defender. Had they taken the pick and drafted Malonga they would have been far better off, especially for next season. Really a stupid move. Guards are far easier to replace than a versitile 6'6" 19 year old on a rookie contract.
