2025-26 Fairfield WBB - Champions Poised to Take the Next Step

Enjoy my preview of Fairfield WBB, a program that is now clearly one of the most dangerous mid-majors in the nation.

I saw this article thanks to someone I follow on Twitter. Knowing that I'm replying to the person who wrote it is pretty cool. Nice write up and thanks for the efforts to keep people in the loop on this team.

Letting my Canadian bias take over and want to say it's great to see Cyanne Coe have the season she did last year. I've known of her since she was playing 2 years up in her age group when she was 7/8 years old. Was really happy to see her thrive with this program as a freshman.

Looking forward to see what Coach Thibault-DuDonis does this year with the team.

Nice article. Thanks for posting. I’m an oddball Fairfield fan who jumped on the bandwagon a couple years ago after watching them play a game against Vandy. After falling behind by double digits in the second half, the Stags just kept grinding and had my Commodores on the ropes by the end of the game. Vandy escaped with the win, but, by the end, I was left cheering for the clock to run faster.

From day one as Commodore coach, Shea Ralph has talked about consistency, both in terms effort and performance. After the Fairfield game, she sang the praises of the Stags and used them as an example of the consistency she had been talking about. She noted they never wavered from the plan and just kept grinding.

I enjoyed watching coach Thibault-DuDonis’ team so much that I watched the replay of just about every game the rest of the season (ESPN+ is a miracle for basketball fans). Janelle Brown and Meaghan Anderson were, and are, the proverbial dynamic duo. I just truly enjoy the team’s style of play. If Brown has fully recovered, I think they have a chance to make that deeper run in the NCAA tourney this year, though, realistically, they need a better bracket than they got last year, Kansas State was a terrible draw.

They took some hits, last season. The awful home loss to Richmond. Losing Brown for the season, followed by the loss to St. John's. And, even, the late season loss to Quinnipiac. Squeaked out a couple of MAAC Tournament wins, before pounding Q. in the Final. Definitely showed resilience when things didn't work out as favorably as they did the year before.

1-15, I think this might be the most talented team, yet, for CTD and co.. Still not sure they've got the depth they need in the interior (especially on defense) - but we'll see.

* I do think Coe is poised for a "both ends of the floor" All-MAAC season, but I really hope she has made strides with her FTs. She'll need that to reach her best potential.
