The "one and done" era of the last 15 years has resulted in a lot of weak drafts and inconsistent player development. 6 different teams have won titles in the last 6 years. Of those 6, 3 teams (Raptors, Bucks, Nuggets) were built off mid and late first and even 2nd round picks, and 2 (Lakers, Warriors) were over the hill squads that highlighted how inconsistent the talent was across the league, and in the Lakers case, got a helping hand from Covid. This year's Celtics were the first team since 2018 to win the title primarily on the backs of high draft picks in the prime of their careers.
I feel like there is a major generational change happening across the NBA. There are a lot of veterans crossing out of the productive part of their careers, then there is a vintage of talent in its late 20's and early 30's that didn't really develop and does not have a lot of significant contributors, and then after that, is a cohort with what appears to be a lot of good young players ready to take over.
These next couple of off-seasons will be among the most complicated in NBA history, a few GMs will look brilliant, and a few will look like complete schmucks.
