Anyone know why he didn’t play at Michigan? Was he on the two deep at any time?

From the look of it, he just didn't have a position to play last year. Michigan had a very rough covid year and stopped their season early, so not many guys got a chance in 2020. In 2021, they went with a new defensive scheme and he'd moved over there and just didn't get on the field. Michigan's defensive front was definitely built more for speed last year as was obvious the way they pushed Ohio State around but got manhandled by Georgia - I don't know how he didn't get time with his athleticism at that size. But he definitely looks like a guy who will contribute game one at UConn.

In-state transfer from an area where we typically strike out also coming from a high profile college. Optics here are glorious.
Not sure he has ever been in an actual game at Michigan

FWIW:
Stewart, who was recruited by Don Brown and Ed Warinner arrived at Michigan ahead of the 2019 season and moved over to the defensive line Outlook for 2021- With a new defense in place, there is a blank slate for everyone on the roster. That could open the door for Stewart to potentially slide in somewhere in a depth role, but he has a lot of competition. Given his athleticism, it is not tough to see him playing on the edge in the new defense and with as multiple as Michigan apparently wants to be, he might be able to crack the rotation somewhere. Players like Rayshaun Benny, Gabe Newburg, Kris Jenkins, George Rooks and others that could make up the third team. It does not seem like a stretch to think he will probably once again stick as a reserve as opposed to someone who can crack the two or three-deep depth chart.

I think it’s a good pick up to bring in depth at the O-line especially with having only 11 guys. According to the article seems like he couldn’t crack the two deep as an O-line at Michigan and switched over to D-line to get more playing time/rotation in but didn’t farewell at D-line. Nevertheless impressive offers from high-school.

Good pickup; should be seen more as low hanging fruit that it does, (former 3-star P5 recruits that didn't get the run they expected coming home), but that is where we are as a program.
