I run this simulation every year. I’ll explain the format.
It’s a minimum of 25 teams.
The receiving votes will all play each other whoever wins out plays the 25th ranked team
The lowest seeded team will always play the highest seeded team as the tournament advances.
If your in the top 15 you have to win 4 games to win it all, 16th 5 games, 17th 6 games, 18-24 7 games, 25th 8 games.
For the receiving votes teams, I have to make it an even number since I have 12 teams so I will have the bottom 4 play each other so I can cut it to 8. In order for one of these unranked teams to win it all they have to win 3 games just to play the 25th ranked team in order to get into the 25 team playoff, the bottom 4 of unranked teams have to win 5 games. To win it all an unranked team needs to win 13 games to win it all, 15 for the bottom 4 of the unranked teams. My math might be a bit off there but you can see that the higher ranked teams have an advantage and lower ranked teams have a severe disadvantage.
I’ll run the simulation in a bit.
