What’s this guy know?!? @HuskeyinSC thinks he should stay
Lets see when the season is over - he is a gifted player no doubt but IMO he needs to be a bit more aggressive in going to the hoop - he isn't going to make it as a stand alone outside shooter. He has the athletic ability to drive and score but he needs to do it a lot more - Rip had that attitude where he wanted the ball and looked to drive first and shoot second
Will he be drafted regardless? Oh yeah, for sure but there are a few things he needs to work on to stay in that lottery area.
Let's hope that UConn plays enough games for him to do so
There's a lot of kids who could move up the list with more PT
Rip, Ray, Ben, - all similar players stayed 3 years...............
I'm not saying he should stay but just playing devils advocate here

I get what you’re saying, I really do. But ray had 3 hs/freshman go in the lotto, rip had like 4 & Ben had 7. Bouk is the only non freshman currently projected as a lotto kid. Game is different now. Coaching staffs seem to trust their development of raw materials for 2/3 years versus what a kid would get in college

Bouknight is #11 on Chad Ford's 2021 NBA draft big board.

Ford on Bouknight:
"One guy that could end up cracking the lottery, who is a returning player is UConn's James Bouknight, who has played very well early on. Teams were excited about him after his freshman season at UConn. He's a sophomore now and has been doing enough I think to warrant a look as a shooting guard in the 10-15 range in the 2021 draft."

Great to see..Just need to get him some games to play in..
The silver lining in all of this, and selfishly speaking, if this season continues in turmoil, there is a slim chance he returns. Meaning more Bouk!

Very interesting.

Also interesting to see what they had to say about Terrence Clarke, especially "doubts about how much he impacts winning".

"Clarke is a talented, athletic scorer with starting-caliber upside, but needs polish in a number of key areas to maximize his ability. He’s big, strong and comfortable scoring anywhere inside 18 feet, although he’s a streaky three-point shooter. He’s struggled with consistency over the past year or so and appears to have plateaued a little bit as a result, with some scouts holding concerns over his maturity and sporadic level of effort, particularly on the defensive end. Clarke is a capable scorer, but can be held back by his lack of attention to the other stuff. If he answers some of those questions, he’ll have a case in the lottery, and there’s been some talk about playing him as more of a lead guard, which would stretch his playmaking capacity in an interesting way. But without all-around improvement, I’d expect him to be a somewhat divisive eval for scouts, with doubts about how much he impacts winning."

Can't they wait until at least mid season before speaking in absolutes like this? The kid is like 5 games into his age 19 season, he has lots of time to grow...

Another good segment on James on today’s episode of Game Theory (Sam Vecenie’s podcast). Him and his guest did a back and forth mock draft and they picked him #14 - Vecenie mentioned he’s up to #12 on his big board. Both guys effusive in their praise of his scoring package and how it will translate to the next level. The issues they mention are his positional defense (though they note he’s a monster in passing lanes) and need to continue filling out his frame as he’s still skinny.

Monster is quite a stretch.

Monster is quite a stretch.

I agree. They are prone to hyperbole as a general rule and I think there is a lot of it overall in the mock draft world. But it’s fun to follow
