Inevitable. Even if Japan has passed the crisis phase in time for the games, it is unlikely the rest of the world will be finished with the pandemic and it would be senseless to bring all those people from every corner of the world together in one place at that point.

With respect to the women's team- It will allow those that were injured another year to recover, however, for some, it will be a year to get older. With respect to both Bird and DT, that extra time will remove any question if their present diminished play is due to their recovery or due to age.
