Baseball America (2/24).

Michigan dropped to #5 - >>The Wolverines stumbled in their weekend as the top-ranked team in the country, losing two of three to Connecticut. Game 1 of the series saw Michigan get out to a 5-0 first-inning lead, but they couldn’t hold it and single runs for the Huskies in the eighth and ninth put them over the top. In the third game of the series, a nightmare fifth inning that saw UConn turn a 2-0 lead into an 8-0 advantage did the Wolverines in. In the game 2 victory, the Michigan offense exploded for 14 runs, with all of the scoring coming in the fifth inning or earlier. DH Dominic Clementi had a three-hit game in that one, with third baseman Ted Burton connecting for a three-run homer. Michigan heads out west this weekend for a series between two teams looking to rebound, as they will take on a Cal Poly team coming off of losing three of four to Brigham Young.<<

A good showing in New Orleans this weekend will likely get UConn noticed in the polls. Interesting that New Orleans plays on Tuesday and Wednesday leading up to the 3 game series on the weekend while UConn gets some rest and recovery after the big series with Michigan. I have always said that baseball for a northern team is the most brutal college sport. It is good that Penders worked in rest time in the schedule with no weekday games in the early OOC schedule. The travel (Arizona, Florida, New Orleans, South Carolina, Virginia for Spring Break, and then the league play starts in Cincinnati). 1st home game on March 29. All while trying to attend college.

I actually think it could be the opposite. The only reason for no mid-week games this early is that its still too cold up North. I'm sure they would actually prefer a teusday mid-week game right now instead of 3 practices M,T,W. Baseball is all about routine and rhythm for hitters and fielders. Look at all the southern schools, some of them are through 8 games already.

Is it too late to put a dome, walls & lights on the new baseball field? :)

Crazy that we probably could have been playing mid-week games in late Feb this year. Hopefully the snow stays away and we're good for march-ish.
