2019 UConn Commit #8 Malik Jackson (Ft. Meade Maryland)

From @huskymedic in the recruiting thread ...

"Malik Jackson is a 6-4 235lb TE/DE from Meade High School in Ft. Meade Maryland. Other offers from Morgan State and Seton Hill University."

HIghlights

I think this kid has nice upside. His frame should be able to add good weight. Unlike many others at this position on our roster which tend to be able to only one or the other; catch or block, he actually shows equal ability at able catching and blocking. He also shows some ability to get a little YAC. I like how he plays downhill whether blocking, catching or running with the ball. He's a falls forward type of guy.

You think we may use him at DE?

I really hope not....but what do I know? To me one of the things limiting our O in a big way is the fact our TEs are lousy blockers. This kid is not some sort of converted QB/WR or martial arts specialist. Davis/McLean/Williams/Rose and Holman are all dudes that have morphed to TE partly in search of a position. While it has worked particularly for Davis and McClean catching the ball, they are still not "natural" TEs which can do both roles well.

DL and LB are huge priorities, unless you think the freshmen will get significantly better.

solid tape. looks like he has decent speed but not a gamebreaker by any means. looks to be a good blocker with plus hands.

Rian Haigler, OG/C prospect from St Johns College High School also tweeted support to Malik Jackson.

These FR are going to play from Day 1. That's our biggest recruiting pitch. Malik (and all FR) will be able to show what they can do the second they arrive on campus.

I knew with our coaching staff would be able to out recruit Big East teams.
Seton Hall hasn't played football since aligning itself with the Big East in 1981.
That's Seton Hill not Seton Hall. I do not know what a Seton Hill is.
Seton Hill is a Division 2 school in Baltimore.

Funny how we were successful in our recent past: Danny Murray. Steve Brouse. Ryan Griffin.
